Gift 2:
For all of those sig makers, especially those who ask me to C&C their work, here's a chance to study my work in depth. :)
The below link contains six of my sigs and their respective PSD files for learning purposes. Enjoy? ^^

God, I wish I had Photoshop on my computer so I could look at these and see what the fuck you do, lol. Goddamn high prices and moralfaggotry. :P

I could wow my teacher with stuff (not your pictures) that she hasn't taught us. :P

I won't do this without a reply, but if you want me to I will turn any of the above into a tutorial; however, since image tutorials take a while to make, and are otherwise a pain in the ass, I won't make it unless I get some confirmation. xD

I sure damn would like to learn how to do decent picture sigs. Text sigs are more my thing here, but I'm the main picture sig maker on a RP site of mine. I still suck, but I'm the best one on the site, meaning I took the step to download GIMP and later I got photoshop, instead of using paint and the works like the do o.O

Paint sigs piss me off. *Stock+Text* I mean, the fuck?
GIMP is an impressive program considering it's price tag of FREE.

My sigs came from constant scrutiny from the guys who taught me how to use Photoshop. These guys would tell me my work was complete shit, but I love them for it, especially since I finally joined them and now I help teach. (:
Photoshop > GIMP > Paint.net > Paint

Anyway to the first statement, I'm assuming that's asking for the tut? Even though you have PSD access via Photoshop? XD

I wouldn't mind you doing it, but if it's a pain in the ass I'd rather you not do it. :P

For me, "it's a pain in the ass" basically means not to expect it quickly. I'll make it, but not in any hurry. It'll likely take two or three days, I'll start on it tonight; however, after a long day, I won't put too much effort into it tonight. xD

I would appreciate it if you're up for it. I've gotten the chance to peer over a couple of them and while it has largely helped in understanding how you make them, I'd like to know a bit more about the actual process of making the specific parts of the sigs you put together. Brushing and stock renders, why you choose to do certain things based on what will look best, etc. Things I can't quite figure out just by the files you included :P

Honestly, I'm quite noobish when it comes to photoshop. I know a few things to edit photos, but graphics like that... not so much.

The image tut will have text explaining a lot of this; however, not everything.
Such that:
I can't show you brushing techniques in images, it would take forever. I can however make a small video demonstrating it later. (Most of my brushing is smudging which takes forever for most people to learn.)
Stock renders, as such...not a term I'd use. I'm not a fan of stocks and seldom use them. I aim for renders. Even rarer do I use stocks as backgrounds, though I know a great sig maker who does.
As for what will look best, I will explain /my/ reasoning, but it's all up to you in the end. Art is nothing but opinion.

In other words: I'm working on it a little now. :)

So, do you use any renders other than, you know, whatever is the main subject of the sig (like.. that guy? :P) or is it all brushes?

I just made something of my own after looking at what you do to figure a few things out, I don't think I want to post it yet, but compared to what I used to do I'm quite proud of myself.

In the above sig I used the focal render. One C4D render which has been smudged and blurred beyond comprehension. Three lighting brushes, all smudged to fade. A soft circle brush for main lighting. Sharpening layer. 8 blurring layers. Small soft brushes for soft lights. Dodge and burn tools for lighting. Three gradients for coloring. And some other stuff I can't remember. XD

Okay...

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o276/lphotobucketl/siggys/kibastraysiggy2.jpg

This is what I learned today (honestly, probably the most I've ever learned in a day).

So if this is what I learned... man, I don't even want to post a "before" sample of my previous skills. It's dog shit compared to that...

Don't be harsh like "this is shit." Whether it is or not, I honestly couldn't be able to take something like that :P But a bit of constructive criticism would be cool.

I didn't bother with much brushes, I tried, can't get it to have the same effect you do. I'll have to wait till that video :)

Yes, and no. His style is appealing and acceptable on VT standards; however, as I told him the other day, it's getting old. He needs to expand his abilities and start looking into new techniques and practices.
The same thing happened with me and my mentors. We /all/ came to the realization that none of us have had anything really "wow" since we migrated to the new forums. We've all adjusted our styles a little, but nothing new.

The same methods grow monotonous after a while.

Only problem with GIMP is it doesn't work on all computers/laptops. I downloaded it and it wouldn't load, so googled for help and loads of people had the same problem. :/

You are awesome, Josh. I'm going to use some of those techniques whenever I get the chance. Actually, I'll use something of the sort on Monday because I'm doing something in Photoshop at the moment, and it needs to be spiced up and now I have an idea. :P

Yes, and no.

Well, it was the first try. And, might I add...

This shit? (http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o276/lphotobucketl/siggys/lalala.jpg)

Is what I was doing before, with no previous background in that stuff.

It's incredibly embarrassing. :/ But with people on the site with stretched pictures with half decent Paint jobs, I had to do something about it :/

Anyway, here ye go!
