Is it bad to have a few glasses of single malt scotch whiskey as a 13 year old. I wanted to try it.

Yes it is. Alcohol is bad for you. Especially if you are underage.

I really hope this post is a mockery...

Anyway, to the OP, NO! Having a small bit of alcohol won't do damage to your liver at 13. Don't make a habit of it or anything, though. I'm sure it didn't taste too great either...

Small to moderate doses of alcohol are actually very good. Moderation is key, at any age. Look:

Were you in a controlled environment and with you parents, sorry i want to be a cop and the legal voice in my head won't shut up.

Well it won't do harm but don't make a frequent habit of it.

I thought that theory collapsed a year ago when Swiss scientists proved that it had no absolute advantages.

Anyway, I remember I drank 2-3 sips of beer when I was 7, got sick afterwards.
13 is too young for you, I'm not saying wait until 18 but at least wait until 15 or something

No, most young people drink alcohol under age. Obviously don't do it regularly at your age, but if you just tried then there was no damage done?

Why would you want whisky away, its horrible?

Yes it is. Alcohol is bad for you. Especially if you are underage.

Do me a favour. Find the person who told you this and slap them repeatably for being a complete moron.

There is a difference between trying some alcohol and becoming a heavy drinker

Not really, no. As long as you don't start doing it on a regular basis, isn't really going to do you any harm.

It is a bit young... but yeah, it won't do much to you unless you start making a habit of it.

I had my first sip of beer when I was 14 (I vomited), my first sip of whiskey (also vomited) and my first glass of wine when I was fifteen. I didn't have anything for a while after that, until the first champagne I had at New Years when I was 17 :P I'm not an alcohol person, because I have a lot of personal problems with it, so I'm not very keen on underage drinking, even drinking at all.

I just don't advise it, because your brain has a lot of development ahead of it. As long as it was for tasting purposes with adults around, and will not become a regular thing, it won't do any harm.

Bah, alcohol is bad, but I didn't say its horrible. Many people drink alcohol, but he's underage. You guys say a little bit isn't bad. What does a little turn into? A lot. Lots of alcoholics just started out by drinking a little.

He's also talking about having 3 glasses of scotch at 13. Explain how that is good?

It's such a small amount it won't do you any harm, although don't make a habit of it.
It's pretty natural for you to want to try alcohol. I first got drunk when I was only just 14, and I can't remember when I first tried alcohol but I don't do it often. As long as it's not too often it's fine :)

While studies certainly show many benefits to moderate (1-2 drinks per day) alcohol consumption in adults, it's definitely not been studied and shown to be true for teenagers and certainly not for kids as young as 13. That drinking in moderation would be good at that age is an unsupported assertion.

Drinking a small amount of scotch is a pretty minor thing. You're young, so it's not great by any means, and many people would look at it as bad, but it won't kill you so long as you don't make a habit of it or drink in excess, so that's your decision.

...so is it legal in a controlled environment with parents? Or is it distributing alcohol to a minor?

Two years isn't gonna make much of a difference, and saying it's too young "for you" doesn't really make any sense...

DUDE DONT START DRINKING my first actual drink drink was a few days before my 13th bday and i started drinking allot and honestly it wasnt a good idea like they said it can mess up your liver trust me on this one they are right

Yeah of course they're right, it's basic biology. Alcohol is a poison, and the liver has to take poisons out of your blood. Drinking excessively will damage your liver, but drinking a small enough amount to not overwhelm your liver is generally safe. Becoming an alcoholic is not guaranteed to happen based on when one starts drinking, and we don't even know if the OP liked it or not.

This.

A government defines the "age". Someone who is "underage" here can go to Canada and get it legally, making your first argument moot. As for your second argument, everyone starts out by drinking "just a little". The ones who become alcoholics have more factors involved.

Well, where I live, your parents are allowed to give you a little (or a little bit more) alcohol to drink. (I felt compelled to share that)

Hmm whereabouts would that be (you don't have to say if you don't feel comfortable, FYI)? I know there are some places with very relaxed alcohol laws, but I'm not sure of which ones.

In the UK it is legal for a child as young as 5 to be given a little bit of alcohol by their parents in their own home, although they reccomend that you don't until the child is 15.
