Police said the military officer's wife killed her son on the way to soccer practice, then drove to their upscale home and shot her daughter in the head while the girl studied at her computer.

When police responded to a call from a concerned relative and found Julie Schenecker on the back porch of her Tampa home, they said she was covered in blood and made a gut-wrenching admission: She had killed her teenage son and daughter because they were "mouthy."

Schenecker was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Wearing a white jumpsuit, she was led into a county jail on Friday, shaking and being supported by a sheriff's deputy.

Schenecker's mother had called police from Texas at about 7:40 a.m. Friday because she was unable to reach the 50-year-old woman, whom she said was depressed and had been complaining about her children.

McElroy said Schenecker left a note detailing her plans to kill her children and then herself, saying "they talked back and were mouthy and that she was going to take care of it." She provided the same motive to police who interviewed her, authorities said.

After being advised of her right to remain silent and consult an attorney, "the suspect confessed to killing her two children," police said in a statement. "She described the crimes in detail."

Schenecker's husband, Army Col. Parker Schenecker, is stationed at the headquarters of U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. The father had been away for several days.

Officers found the body of Schenecker's daughter, Calyx Schenecker, 16, in an upstairs bedroom, McElroy said. The body of her son, Beau Schenecker, 13, was found in a sport utility vehicle in the garage.

An arrest affidavit said Schenecker shot her son twice in the head "for talking back" as she drove him to soccer practice Thursday night. She drove home, went inside and shot her daughter in the back of the head while the teen sat at a computer doing homework, then shot her in the face, the affidavit said.

McElroy said investigators believe the teens "never saw it coming." Both were killed with a .38-caliber pistol. Police said the weapon was purchased five days earlier, The Tampa Tribune reported.

The family's home is on a cul-de-sac in a gated country club community in north Tampa.

Charanun Soodjinda, 38, lives across the street. He said the Scheneckers moved in about two years ago and "fit right in."

"They seemed like a nice family," Soodjinda said. "I never thought this would happen. How could you do that to your children?"

I do hope you guys are kidding. One mad woman doing something horrible doesnt justify calculated barbarity on the part of the state.

About stoning her, yes. About the death sentence, no.

This sickens me, its so tragic and such a waste of lifes. How can you do that to your children. I hope the mother gets the punishment she deserves, prison for life, but I also want her to get the help she needs. She must be so ditsraught. :cry2:

I blame the culture of adult authority that's swept over this country— that parents are never to be questioned; always to be followed no matter how incredibly stupid or dangerous they are. It's stories like these that compel me to support the death penalty, but I have to remind myself that a well-deserved life in a small concrete prison cell, for 23 hours a day, is much worse and more appropriate.

Well, from where she said "mouthy". I'm sure these kids talked back to her and probably cursed a lot to her. They asked for it. This would piss me off, if I had children like these, but then again. It isn't a reason to kill them. I'm taking no side but both have a story behind their actions.

Being a parent isn't about commanding your children like they're slaves. You have to take constructive criticism as well and listen to your kids. I mean, they expect and deserve a level of respect and kindness from their parents.

Mouthy could mean ANYTHING, from being a total ass to merely asking for a glass of water when mommy dearest was pissed off.

And they most definitively did NOT 'deserve it'. NOTHING warrants the taking of a human life, especially that of a child.

The help she needs? She's batfuck insane, what help can there be for that?!

What she did and her reasoning behind doing it are disgusting, sickening, and make me weep for humanity. What reason do we have to 'help' someone like that?

I never meant to say they deserved it but what ever they did REALLY pissed her the fuck off or she's just fucking insane. Like I said, she had no reason to kill them but something happened for her to do it.

I'm pretty sure she's just nuts. I just don't see how one could get so riled up as to kill someone over them being 'mouthy'.

If she did something like this she needs therapy, prison time in a psychiatric ward, meds. I'm not excusing what she did, it was horrible and evil but are you honestly saying that people who need help shouldn't get it if the reason they need help is because the did something despicable, in my opinion that is more reason to get her help so she won't do it again.

Yes and no. I'm not disagreeing that she needs to be put in a psych ward and given meds, but I do disagree with giving extensive psychiatric help in a case like this. In any case, odds are good she wouldn't be released from the ward, ever. If you are found to be insane and they choose to send you to a ward, you'll be there for much longer than just a regular prison stay. They can keep you there until they deem you fit to return to society, which in some cases is never. This strikes me as one of those cases. Sure, get her in a ward and on meds, but know a lost cause when you see one.

A stoning is more humane than life in prison.

She needs a major psych eval. Probably something diagnosable. Honestly, I feel the death penalty is the most humane thing out there. If she is insane, once she receives treatment she won't be able to live with the guilt. If she's not diagnosably ill, then she's a threat to society.
