Because you're new with under 250 posts. Moderated means the Mods have to approve it first. When you've been here for 3 months and you have over 250 (I think) posts they won't need to be moderated any more.

I just encountered something odd (but not to do with VMs). For the first time the site has told me I have to wait for my post in a topic to be approved by a mod. Why the sudden moderation?

Sometimes after X infraction points you can have to have your stuff moderated. Idk.
