Not exactly sure if this is where this should go, never quite asked anything of the sort, so please move if it's wrong.
Anyway, I tried uploading a .gif as my avatar, and it uploaded fine, however, as you can clearly see, it's not exactly animated. I was wondering if I was doing something wrong, or if maybe animated avatars aren't compatible?
Thanks.

Did you upload it through imageshack or photobucket? Or did you upload it from your pictures folder?
Try doing both.

Animated avatars ARE allowed. Jess uses one in fact; however, I'm not sure the specifics for gifs. Honestly, as Jess' is so simple, and others aren't, it could be directly related to the file size. As in, when the file is uploaded, VT automatically tries to reduce the size to as little as possible (correct me if I'm wrong), this could kill the gif animation, resulting in the single frame image you have now.

@Jesse, I uploaded it via file on my computer, but i'll try photobucket shortly.
@Josh, that could be it, however the image size itself is 120 x 119, so it meets the size requirment for the avatar.
Also, why is it that avatars much be such a small sized file? Would it cost more money to increase the file size capability of avatars or something? Otherwise, i see absolutely no reason not to allow them to be a larger file.

A lot of my sigs meet VT size requirements, but their data size is too large for VT to compress ie- "Remote file is too large."
The reason these data restrictions are in place is to prevent lag on the server. Larger images, data sizes, and such add to the load.
Imagine this.
20 posts per page. That's 20 avatars.
At least 12 have image sigs.
32 images there.
Add any images in the posts + quotes (before the new filter)
At least 40 images per page.
See?

Yeah thats true, alright. That may be why, it's like a 300 KB file, so it's possible. This is what it is, or what it's supposed to be.it's not like a huge fiery in depth, takes-20-minutes-to-load gif, it's simple. ;P

I have trouble with most anything over 100KB.

I've always assumed, if my chosen animated avatar is not moving, it's because it was reduced in size and now it's frozen.

Alright it's no big deal really, i'll just find a different avatar. Thanks though, for letting me know.
