Your rep power is based on 3 things:-

the number of rep points that you have (shown in your User CP)
the length of time you've been a member of vt
the number of posts you have made

Of these the number of rep points makes the biggest contribution by far. Your rep power increases by 1 for every 50 points that you receive.

You gain rep points if another member likes what you've posted enough to give you +rep, and you lose points if someone dislikes what you've written enough to give you -rep. If you receive -rep and you really feel its unfair you can appeal to an admin, but there's no guarantee they will agree it was unfair!

Your rep power is the number of points that the other person receives if you +rep one of their posts. For example, my rep power is currently 132, so if I +repped one of your posts you would gain 132 points. When you -rep a post the other person loses half of your rep power in points, so if I -repped you would lose 66 points.

also I want to add that you should make a big deal about it. if you think the rep was given unfairly, you can tell an admin. But who cares about a stupid red block? Just because you have one doesn't mean you are bad.
