I been interested in getting Rosetta Stone to learn Russian I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on it thought. Has anyone here used it that has anything to say bout it? Not just Russian but any language you tried to learn.
Also if you dont like it and got a better software to look into let me know

I tried it. Didn't really like it. You don't start speaking a new language within minutes. All you're doing is memorizing the words.

My brother has it to learn Italian, he says he likes it. I've never tried it, personally, but he's had nothing but good things to say about it.

basically its more a quiz than a learning software cause you have pictures and you have to guess which is the correct phrase, and there is no translations,so its not that good...

Isn't it officially used by the European Union and NASA? Then if your trying to learn a new language I imagine it would do nothing but benefit, in comparison to buying a phrase book.

I use it for Spanish and I like it.
You just have to have to be focused on it and not anything else, otherwise it won't work. But definitely try it out first before you buy it.

I highly recommend Rosetta Stone. It works well, as I used it to teach myself Italian for a short time. The only reason I stopped was because I was too busy, and it was taking up space on my computer.

Oh, by the way, quizzes make you learn more than studying, or just learning in general (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/21/science/21memory.html?pagewanted=all). You basically learn the way you learned your original language, without translation. You use common sense and build upon it eventually, memorizing it and associating what things look like with the word or phrase given to it on the program.

I think you'd be better off taking classes in the language you want to learn. You miss an element of conversation and natural language speaking skills when you sit at a computer and repeat words.
Je voulais apprendre le français alors j'ai décidé de suivre des vraies classes au lieu de Rosetta Stone. Je suis vraiment heureux avec la décision que j'ai faite! ;)

It is memorization just like any other ways to learn a language. this you get to learn phrases and stuff it takes a long time and you dnt actually learn the language just words to combine to make sentences and help you understand it more. i think for the money it aint worth it although it does work a lil.

i used the spanish version. i liked it accept for the fact that you have to guess what phrases and words mean; they never tell you straight up that like la nina means girl
