Let's say you had to go get a check up from your doctor, or had to get a surgery done where your scars would be exposed; how would you explain self injury scars to the doctors? Would you tell them about it before they started the exam?

I usually don't. They'll ask me about them when they see them, I tell them the truth, and we move on. I try not to make it seem like a big deal or anything, and usually if they're my preferred type of doctor, they'll leave me alone about it.

You don't have to say anything you don't want to say, although anything that is mentioned during an exam is kept between the patient and the doctor. You can choose to mention it or say that you would rather not talk about it.

It's up to you. Be truthful, or lie. Whatever you do, you have to accept the consequences with it.

I personaly would say anything unless they asked me.
But then its up to you if you tell them the truth or make something up, but most examinations are kept between the doctor and yourself.
I think I'd probably try and make something up if I was in that situation though

If it's something that's all over and done with, like just scars from the past, then you don't really have anything to hide, but wither way I wouldn't say until they asked me. It's up to you though really.

I've always said "sorry its a bit of a mess under there" but as everyone has said dont say anything you dont want to. And its all private and confidential anyway so whatever you do say is between you and the doc. No one else.

I depends on how much i trust my doctor, like my GP would get the old sadist cat excuse but my hearing specialist of four years would get the truth.

I would be careful if you are a recovered self injurer and they are just scars the doctor patient confidentiality will hold however if you have open cuts and the doctor is concerned that you are in immediate danger of harming yourself they can break confidentiality. If you are interested in hiding the scars you can use cover up or there is scar cream if you are intersted in trying to make them dissappear completely. If there are cuts and you are intersted in hiding them you can make up a viable excuse and people usually won't question you. i hope that helped.

I am having the same problem im due to go to the doctors next week but im worried that if the doctors sees the cuts on my on my arms that it will make things much worse. What do i do or say what viable excuse can i give?

I would tell them the truth if they asked me,
If they didnt ask i wouldnt say anything (but its already on my records so that gives me an advantage, as i dont have to tell them).
Really its up to you :)

I caught my surgeon looking at them when I was on the table before I went under. He never asked.
