Whenever a violent attack happens, it doesn't take long for someone to blame video games. English-language Russian news channel RT is the latest outlet to mention video games alongside an atrocity, insinuating a connection between the recent suicide bombing at Domodedovo International Airport outside Moscow and the "No Russian" mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
For those behind on international news, yesterday a suicide bomber blew himself up in the international arrivals section of the airport, killing 35 and injuring over 180. In the aftermath, RT issued a report attempting to tie the incident to the sequence in Modern Warfare 2 where players have the option to shoot down civilians in a Russian airport.
"With so many seemingly downloading, watching, and playing this game, you have to consider that this bloodbath would ever-so-closely resemble reality," said reporter Lauren Lyster before eliciting similar quotes from others.
Take a look at the video (http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/25/russian-media-points-to-moscow-airport-attack-in-u-s-video-game/) for yourself to see what you think of the connection.

You know, right after I played the 'No Russian' mission, I totally wanted to go to the nearest airport and mow down everyone I see with a machine gun.......
Seriously though, they'll try to link video games to anything.

I'm guessing Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated because the Eggman had the same mustache and everyone hates Dr. Eggman. JUST LOOK AT THAT STACHE AND THE SIMILARITY!

This is just another lame excuse by some old boring lawyer to try and get violent video games banned.

tbh
Russian airport... terrorist attack. I can see where they're coming from, it's certainly a lot more linked than Columbine and Doom, but at the same time once again I don't think they should come to such presumptuous conclusions without evidence - even if it was the game that might have provoked someone to commit the attack, that is the person's problem, not the problem of a game that many non-psychotic people enjoy without wanting to kill people from it.

Don't you think they would've brought guns? It'd do a lot more damage than a bomb.

More than likely whoever found the connection had just watched the news report on Youtube and seen the trolls underneath "Like if you played as this guy in MW2 LULLLLLZZZZZ!!!"

Probably not. Get a gun out and airport security will have you dead in two ticks, they carry guns for a reason. Blow yourself up and shooting you don't do no good.

Security was scarce. Were they having small automatics, shit would've gone down. More than 35 people would've been killed if they unloaded into that crowd.

Guns can be much bulkier to carry around compared to your vest, unless you can manage to sneak it in disasembled and find an empty bathroom stall to reasemble it discretely. Plus if you were to unload a clip on the crowd, security would be likely to put one in your leg and or arm instead of killing you.

Reporters don't learn anything about the game they blame, though. If they knew anything, they'd know that that mission was important to the entire plot since the Russians attack, and kill the American agent so it looks like the Americans did it. I doubt the terrorists are trying to do that.

>implying "No Russian" was a bombing
>implying it wasn't a massacre
>implying the game doesn't give you the option to censor out the level
I fucking hate social conservatives, no matter what country they're in.

But they've gotta blame something, don't they?
After all, no one's ever done something like this for no reason at all. Must be those violent video games them kids are so into these days. /sarcasm
Also:
>implying that this could be pulled off by anyone from the Modern Warfare 2-playing demographic

They obviously had nothing else to use as an excuse and turned to video games as always. I've never seen them use another excuse but that.
