Okay, I don't know if this goes here but ah well.
For about, oh, nine months now, I have found myself staying up very late, usually until around 2PM. It wasn't a problem at first, but obviously as time went by I found it harder and harder to get to sleep earlier, and I found myself pulling all nighters more often.
This wouldn't be a problem, apart from the fact that my school starts at 8AM and obviously this is quite a problem because I do get tired, and am usually running on around 5 hours sleep. But the thing is, that if I try to get to sleep earlier I just get headaches, overheated and uneasy, for some reason which I can't fathom.
Another thing is now that whenever I do sleep, I often only have disturbed sleep, waking up often or having strange dreams, thus preventing me from getting any real rest.
But it was only really recently that I have been feeling the price for lack of sleep. I have noticed that I am often zoning out, having headaches and sometimes if I stand up after a while, my eyes kind of cloud over with a black fuzz, and I can't see. I also go very dizzy and shaky.
Is there something wrong? I have tried to get to bed early so many times but it's like my body won't shut down until it's completely exhausted.

Well, are you on the computer real late at night? Do you have any sleep disorder, or anything like that. If you can't go to sleep, that isn't normal.

I know the feeling, I used to stay up until around 2pm to do school work but after a while I just realised it wasn't worth it. Normally the sufferer could simply get to bed early by doing things that make them tired: reading a book etc. and reduce their bed time hours by around half an hour or so until they are within acceptable hours to get their 8 hours etc. Feeling over-heated in bed is generally normal as you are underneath a large douvet, which I always feel. Keep a window open or maybe buy a fan for your room to help you cool down.
Cases that could cause your disturbed sleep could be believe it or not due to inacitivy: the body has had no real energy spent and therefore will make it harder to sleep. Try exercising to help wear yourself out and prepare the body for sleep. As for your "uneasiness" whilst trying to sleep could be a direct cause of you being too energised for sleep. Do you drink any kind of caffeine based beverages and if so in large quantities?
That said, these would be helpful tips to aid normal sleep deficiency but as those symptoms do sound a bit farfetched to me, perhaps you have something like the poster above said: a sleeping disorder, Insomnia for example...?

Whenever I can't sleep I read, draw, listen to music or go on my laptop etc. Anything to try and get myself to relax really.
I have no clue if I have a sleeping disorder or not, I'm afraid.

You could also try as a last resort: calming pills/sleeping pills.

I have thought of that before, but the problem is that because I have diabetes, if my blood sugars went high or low in the night, I could potentially end up in bigger trouble than just having no sleep.
Argh, I'm at loss of what to do really...

try reading and if that doesn't make you tired enough to fall asleep then you are probably an insomniac and need sleeping pills

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! I must have posted just after you. >.<
Okay, I will give those things a go. I'm pretty active, I ride out on my horses daily and I don't drink caffeine. I have tried reading, or simply just relaxing and listening to music, but I never seem ready to sleep.

Well then if every trick seems to be unaffective towards you then perhaps you should just go see a doctor about the symptoms. He'll probably just subsribe some pills though.

Before trying ANY type of sleeping pills ect - I would see your doctor. One of the many reasons is that with your current condition, may not be the best thing to take any type of medication - to which you are not used to. Another thing is sleeping pills have many side effects - one of the most common is sleepwalking. The best thing to do is consult with your doctor about the problem you are having - and ask him about taking medication if you want to go down that route. It is the better route to take as he is the most experienced and would be able to recommend something that will be better for you - then anyone else on here.

I totally agree with Josiah7 but I have a few things to add. You do need to see a doctor(that is why they are there.) Another thing you can do is change your diet. Some foods contain things that will help you sleep and example is Turkey. Other things to eat are Unsalted Peanuts, Pasta, Bread anything that has starch in it would help. The starch helps you rbody produce melatonin and that helps you body fall asleep and stay asleep.
Also another important thing is that useing speeling pills can be habit forming and that is one of the last things you need to deal with.
Another thing could be your level of activity. In my personal opinion I think you might want to cute back on a few of your activities. You need to give your body some rest.
Also when 8pm comes around I would suggest that you eat a snack and then do not eat anything else. Eating a snack 2-3 hours before you go to bed will give your body some time to extract some nutrients from the food but not all of them. This would be the time when you sit down and enjoy a cup of Decafinated tea or soemthing similar. Preping your body for sleep can be very useful and I try to do this every evening because I have a lot of trouble trying to fall asleep. I hope this helps. Please feel free to PM me if you have any further questions, also if you do not like the foods I suggested I have more that I could share.

Agreed Diet plays a big part. After talking with a Medical Professional I know on a personal basis, he told me that there are 2 main factors related to be unable to sleep. Environmental and Emotional. Enviro factors include how much light, technology, noise ect. I would recommend only keeping the bed for sleeping. I know most of us are in bed with laptops, phones, Ipods - but doing this over a period of time; will cause your body to adapt to this and will feel different without it. If you keep the bed for sleeping - it will relax you more and will be able to sleep. Try and limit the amount of light in the room, keep the room dark as possible - it will signify that it is night and then make you more sleepy. Its just like having alot of light will keep you awake - because you relate it to daytime. I know it sounds strange, took me awhile as well - but it does make sense. Try and have your room dark for at least 1 hour before you try and sleep - it will help you relax rather then with lights on. Also set a time limit for music ect - about half an hour before you want to sleep, this will relax you more once again.
Some emotional factor include your stress level, how active you are ect. Try and keep relaxed before bed - as being stressed and worried will only keep you awake.
Keep the bed for sleep only - if you use laptops - us it on a desk. If you cant sleep without any type of music ect - have the radio on very low volume. (This helps me to sleep personally) But everyone is different. Try and not to eat after dinner also.
At your age you should be getting at least 8 Hrs of sleep a night in order to sleep, grow and have a sufficient amount of energy for you to get through the next day - and concentrate in school. Diet, Sleep and How active you are will all determine how fit and healthy you are.
Hope this helps :)
