I'm a big thrash fan. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Testament. I also like some prog metal, like Coheed & Cambria and Dream Theater.

I don't listen to much metal nowadays, though, since I've moved into grunge and hip-hop/90s rap.

Mine are Drone Doom, Black, Post Metal, Stoner, Sludge, Progressive, and Avant Garde Metal.

Drone Doom - Sunn O))), Pentemple, Khanate, Fear Falls Burning, and Earth.

Black Metal - Deathspell Omega, Shining, Burzum, and Portal, Lifelover, and Silencer.

Post Metal - Rosetta, A Cold Dead Body, Cult Of Luna, Callisto, and Isis.

Stoner - Electric Wizard, Bongripper, Zozobra, Suma, and Sleep.

Progressive - Porcupine Tree, Oceansize, Devin Townsend, Gojira, and Mastodon.

Avant Garde Metal - Kayo Dot, Bloody Panda, Maudlin Of The Well, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Jesu, and Unexpect.

Sludge - Potop, Harvey Milk, Boris, Reverend Bizarre, Overmars, and Church Of Misery.

Other - Agalloch (Durrrr).

I also like some prog metal, like Coheed & Cambria and Dream Theater.


Not to be an ass, but those are two of the worst progressive bands ever. I hate Coheed with a burning passion. Who makes a fucking five album long concept album? That's like the most drawn out dumb fuck idea ever. And the guys vocals really suck, like almost as bad as that guy from Neutral Milk Hotel.

I know, that's why I barely listen to them. Really, I'm more inclined to listen to Rush, Floyd and Yes, but they aren't metal band (well, Rush has some arguable heavy metal songs, but whatever).

There is some pretty good screamo/emo stuff out there actually. Most of what you've heard is probably the shitty entry level stuff like underoath and senses fail, which I think are horrible. Math Rock is somewhat inspired off screamo/emo.

Well, that's not so surprising seeing my symphonic metal taste, all the bands I listed have very striking vocalists.

The Unquiet Sky albums seems great so far, I might get the whole thing. Sludge/Doom metal kinda goes hand in hand with stoner metal.
