View Full Version : Earth to have 2 suns by 2012

Earth could be getting a second sun, at least temporarily.
Dr. Brad Carter, Senior Lecturer of Physics at the University of Southern Queensland, outlined the scenario to news.com.au. Betelgeuse, one of the night sky's brightest stars, is losing mass, indicating it is collapsing. It could run out of fuel and go super-nova at any time.
When that happens, for at least a few weeks, we'd see a second sun, Carter says. There may also be no night during that timeframe.

This is the second (second only to the Cheerios story) most epic thing I've ever read in my entire life.

Got any sources to back this up, bud? 'Cause I can say your claim is bullshit too without any reason.

I don't need to prove anyone. I'm content with what I believe is going to happen in 2012. The government can keep making this crap up for years on end and the world will still believe it. Just like Y2K.

Okay. Have fun with that. I still don't know why you don't believe that a star undergoing super novae is made up by the government.

If this happens, which I hope it will, I'm going to start selling "double sun protection sunglasses, sunscreen, etc." and generate massive ammounts of income :P

Read more carefully before you talk out your ass.
It's not a 2012 dooms day theory, it's a naturally occurring phenomena that could happen BY the year 2012. It wont even affect us hardly, other than getting a little more sun than usual. Also, as it said, there could be no night.

It's because the government is behind everything. Just like how Abraham Lincoln wanted to get assassinated.

Dude, lay off on the conspiracy theories. Seriously. There's no substance behind them except some paranoid obsession with the government hiding things from us. Having a serious belief in all these unfounded ideas is as ludicrous as taking the Bible literally.

Well, it looks like you should, because no one will care what you have to think unless you provide credible evidence. Other than that, your beliefs are ignorant and BS.

Wow. This would be amazing, should it happen.
How often do people see 2 suns on Earth? It'd be absolutely brilliant!

This isn't the first I've heard of this. I believe it's Betelgeuse that's supposed to supernova. It's supposed to be so bright that we won't have a dark nights for a short period, several years at most I think. Like noted in the article though, it's supposed to be harmless to us if it does happen.

This would be beyond epic if it resulted in light nights. Most epic party of all time.
Also, a kind of cool note is that, of course, this potentially already happened over 1000 years ago.

Did not think of that. Holy shit, we're going to be seeing something that happened during (possibly) the reign of Henry II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_II,_Holy_Roman_Emperor), the only Holy Roman Emperor to be canonized. Sexy, right?

Yes.
That reminds me, the Sun is hot, right? Well, Australia's hot too, right? So if we have the Sun... plus another sun... wait, let me get out my calculator.
Here's the formula:
sun = hot
sun + sun = 2sun (or hot + hot = 2hot)
2hot = DOUBLE THE HOTNESS
HOLY FUCK, IT'S GOING TO BE DOUBLE HOT

Well this sort of sucks. Orion will be changed forever. Instead of a big red star on its right shoulder, there will be a nebula(type of nebula is slipping from me atm) which viewed from the naked eye cannot be viewed.(in a city of course) So it'll feel like a piece of Orion is missing.
But other than that, this does look like an epic moment in astronomy :)

If the forecast temperature is 100 degrees, it'll be TWO HUNDRED DEGREES.
Expecting a chilly 50-degree day? FUCK THAT, IT'LL BE 100 BITCH.

Aw. I thought it was weird at first that they were certain it was going to be next year since it still has a lot of viable life left in it. And two suns would be badass. It'd be like having a planet being visible from Earth, i.e. it taking up a lot of our visible sky. I love stuff like that. I like astronomy a lot. :P
