Who is depressed, hates his life, has issues in everything (family, school, dating etc.)... He started cutting not long ago... What can i do to help him?
Just being the one he can talk to?

It depends on the person you're trying to help. But generally you let them talk or come to you when they need to, don't try and force stuff out of them. Let them take it at their own pace and don't make ultimatums because usually it tends to put more pressure on them and makes the situation worse. Let them know you're there if you need them and that they can trust you. Just be that person they know'll be there when they need you. Also, don't pretend you know what they're going through if you don't, just tell them the truth but either way you're there for anything they need you to be. Listener, Helper, Someone to give them advice.

You could try being sympathetic, not being a bully. Suggesting to someone that for every cut they might make you can make two is not giving advice, its not helping them to address or deal with their problems. Frankly its emotional blackmail. And emotional blackmail is only heaping more problems onto the person you are trying to help.

Not sure how my previous reply was about my ego, it was about how I know you dealt with a friend tonight. Your reply shows that you know that and that you also dont deny it.
