Sitting on the floor playing with her hair,
Sarah didn't know that nobody was there.
She talked to her dolly and sang it a song,
Sarah's all alone, she didn't know the wrong
She sings and she sings, dancing in the air,
Sarah and her dolly believe that all play is fair.
They dance on the rug making circles and squares
Ashes to ashes is the song that they share
Sarah's house came to flames one day
While she and her dolly put on a play.
A musical was their sort of show
Songs about places they'd both like to go
Sarah sang of Paris, Dolly sang of Rome,
Together they'd pretend these places were home
Songs of their days, ballads of nights
Sarah and Dolly were doing alright.
Then came the fire, but they didn't know
Sarah and Dolly still put on the show
Ashes to ashes down came the house
No thing left alive more than a mouse
Sitting on the floor without any fear,
Sarah doesn't know that nobody is here.
She talks to her dolly and sings it a song,
Sarah's all alone, but you should just play along
Sarah didn't know that nobody was there.
