Brass players?

I need help. My private instructor told me that when i tounge a staccato note on my trombone that i make a weird throut noise. By brother (played trombone thru highschool) told me it's because i'm stopping my air with my throut and not my tounge. So if any brass player knows how to stop that i'd like to hear some advice.

it's just like your instructor told you, you're stopping the noise with your throat, use your tongue.
