- Use shaving cream.
- Don't shave them off as soon as you see the stubbles growing. You can easily cut your self a millions times, even with shaving cream.
- Use hair removel cream when little hair is present.
- Don't do it quickly. Take your time.
- Don't do a dry shave.
Don't know anything else.

Use a sharp razor, shave with the grain of the hair, and use some kind of moisturizer afterwards to soothe the area and prevent ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs are way more of a problem and annoying with pubic hair than with facial hair.

Can I just ask what is an ingrown hair? How can you tell you have one?

An ingrown hair is, as its name suggests, a hair that grows inwards. So rather than growing outwards and sticking out, it grows into your skin. You can tell you have one if you have what appears to be an inflamed hair follicle, which will be red and sore. It is apparent when it is an ingrown hair as opposed to a shaving rash when the two are compared. You can tweeze them out, which is painful and could cause infections, so it is easier to try and prevent them in the first place.

Thanks, makes total sense.

OP - you asked about shaving, so I assume you want it all gone?

I was watching something on telly (about teens going off on holiday) and the boys were waxing each other before they went. Might be another option but obviously you have to be prepared for a bit of pain. Waxing has the advantage it takes longer for the hair to come back and it makes it weaker the more you do it.

Another option if you don't have much is plucking/ tweezing. I've been doing this since I started getting them and its working ok (i use a bit of tcp after to stop infections). I only have to check about once a week for any coming back in. I guess you could start doing some each day if you don't find it too painful (if you just get on with it quickly its really not that bad).

If you don't want to be smooth, my bf is using a wilkinson's sword quattro razor that came with a trimmer at the end to trim (not shave). You can adjust the length and its really quick too. Think it cost about £10 or something.

What are the dos and don'ts of shaving your pubic hair?

Be warm and wet such as shower or bath
New razor
Trim with scissors first
Lots of proper shaving cream
Shave downwards
Lots of time and care
Don't be too scared if you get the odd cut.
