Sad, but beautiful story. What love he must have had for his brother to give him the ultimate sacrifice.
Australia VTers, you, your families, and country are in my thoughts and prayers right now. Here's hoping none of you have to make the sacrifice that young Jordan Rice chose to make. <3

Amazing story. These floods are just terrible, but we all know Australians have the determination and experience to get through it.

Kind of what I was thinking. This isn't a beautifully sad story. It's just another one of your typical tragic natural disaster stories. Ten bucks says the kid does nothing useful with his life, or he starts smoking pcp, or dies a couple years later even though he survived that disaster.

I sure hope that isn't the case. I prefer to think that even if he doesn't win a Nobel Prize someday, he will be a contributing member of society one day.
Here's what I think succeeding in life is:
To laugh often and love much:
To win respect of intelligent people
And the affection of children;
To earn the approbation of honest critics
And endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To give one's self;
To leave the world a little better,
Whether by a healthy child,
A garden patch,
Or redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm
And sung with exultation;
To know even one life has breathed easier
Because you have lived...
This is to have succeeded.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Hopefull he does all of this and more. <3

uhm, how to say this, but that is incredibly rude, his sacrifice does not contribute to his brothers success/failure. and where does that come into this story? his brother gave his life for his younger brother, that is an amazing thing, im sure the younger brother is not going to be a menice to society. and i find it so very insulting that anyone could bad mouth someone who is in this situation.

Most misanthropic people really could care less if a person got ran over by train. Yeah, I'm being negative and horribly rude; that's just how I am. I'm just pointing out that there's a possibility that his death really didn't mean much. Maybe the older brother should of survived instead sense he's older and seems like a braver person.
I'm not saying the guy has to win the Nobel Piece Prize, I'm just saying that he might not be of any value or do anything important ever. Who knows, maybe he'll write a novel about the incident, make a shit load of cash and not have to worry about shit for a long time.
