Ok, so I sort of discussed parts of this from another angle but I'm so proud of how far Louisiana is ahead of the pack on this I have to brag!
In your Jr and Sr years of HS years you can enroll in up to 2 college courses FOR FREE and get dual credit (both HS and college.) You can also take any classes you meet entry requirements for and get dual credit if you get at least a C. Lots of states offer dual enrollment, but many require you to pay for them. Then we have whats called a Louisiana Transfer Degree. It's an Associates degree form any Community Collage that guarantees all 60 hrs will transfer to any state university. Lastly the state legislator passed a law requiring the board of regents make at make a list of at least 200 classes guaranteed to transfer from CC to any university. In my case, UNO and Delgado CC guaranteed almost any class to transfer. I say were ahead of the curve on this because I read an article (sorry can't remember were) that stated only 23 states have any plan in place to even help students transfer credits. In these states universities only have what's in the CC college catalog to tell them about the class, so they often reject credits since they can't tell for cretin if it meets their standards. It is common for students to loose lots of their credits. Do you know how many of these items have been implemented in your state? CC college can be a foot in the door for those of us that were kind of lazy in HS since if you have a AS or AA the university won't even look at your HS GPA. It also will save me $5000.
