Four year old Colton Burpo had to get emergency surgery after poison (from his appendix bursting) spread throughout his body for five days. During the procedure, Colton died for three minutes and remembers going to Heaven.

While he was in Heaven, Colton met four people:

1.His grandfather that died decades before Colton was born.
2.His sister that was unborn because of a miscarriage...that his mother never told him about.
3.Jesus (Colton says that Jesus has "the most pretty eyes" and "wears the whitest clothes with a purple stripe- (He didn't know the word sash))
4.John the Baptist.

To try to better understand what Jesus looks like, Colton's parents would play a game with him. They'd point to a picture of Jesus and ask him if it was right. Colton's answer was always "no." Until one day, when his father- Todd Burpo- came across a story about a girl who painted pictures of visions "from Heaven." Todd asked Colton what was wrong with this picture, but Colton just stood there, silent, and said, "Dad, this one's right."

If people are gullible enough to be impressed by the stories of a toddler recovering from the effects of anesthatics, then this does nothing but make me doubt their ability to think rationally and have a meaningful opinion.

"Yea, God's a very tall person, who can literally hold the whole world in his hands..."

"Jesus, well he's a got a very rough but kind face, sea - blue eyes and a smile that lit up the heavens."

Of course the young red neck just happened to bump into Caucasion Jesus, as you do.

I believe this is either total bullshit or that there's a valid explanation for this phenomena. Maybe something where the brain uses past memories to create dreams?

I wonder if there have ever been instances when a Muslim or a Hindu, etc. have had experiences like this. Because I find stories like this interesting, even though the only ones I've ever heard have to do with Christianity.

It could be an interesting truth or an embarassing trap. Either way, the kid looked like he was lying.

How could it possibly be a dream/anesthatic if he actually died for those few minutes?

Clinical death (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_death) is not equivalent to actual, full-fledged death. The brain can still function for a short period of time even if the patient has stopped breathing. However, with that comes sever brain damage — if he "died" for 3 minutes, he'd have severe brain injuries. But all that doesn't matter anyway, because this kid wasn't even clinically dead. The thread title is misleading:

In a wonderful bit of guileless reporting, Fox News did a strangely straight-faced interview this week with Colton Burpo, a boy who claims that, while under sedation during an emergency appendectomy when he was 4, he visited heaven.

He was unconscious, not dead. Nobody can die for an entire 3 minutes and survive the damages to the brain that causes.

Actually you can be dead four minutes and not suffer brain damage. Brain damage begins occurring anywhere between 3 and 5 minutes after death, usually four. After this point brain damage starts occurring.

Well, it's irrelevant now anyway, because he wasn't dead in the first place. The Wiki article is confusing, so I'm sorry if I misled anyone.

Wow, there's alot(And I mean ALOT) of evidence that says these experiences are completely triggered by the brain but this can't be explained if the boys telling the truth.
They say images come to the mind such as loved ones and whichever higher power they believe in which makes them think they met Jesus and dead loved ones. But the fact that he never met his grandad, and didn't even know about his sister is amazing. And the whole thing about Jesus is pretty amazing too.
Love this.

I would like to just say that things are held in your sub-conscience mind that you can't retrieve. His parents could have talked about his dead sister and grandfather when he was an infant, etc. Also, Jesus was not white. You can't take him seriously on that. He was brown since he lived in the freakin' Middle East.

All the 'facts' in this case seem to be unprovable hearsay at this point in time. I wouldn't get too excited you've got proof of Jesus right here. If you truly believe, you don't need proof anyway, so this is no biggy surely?

No, a creationist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Ham). I just finished one of his books. I plan on visiting his museum. :P Anyway, I hate stories like these. I always hate when children get attention from the media because people actually beilieve them, and then parents are like "Yep, that's our Timmy haha. We don't try to encourage him or exploit his misfortunes."..... I need a fuckin' burrito. I'm starving.

Oh nice! Jesus got highlights.

And look! It's posted on Fox News. That sums it all up.

They wrote a book about it? Just like everyone else that claims they went to heaven! And the father helped write it. I get it now.

That's fucking sick. What a horrible father.

You guys want more info? How about learning about near death experiences with a little bit of humor -

I'd actually be interested in visiting that museum. I heard you get kicked out if you laugh at the exhibits.

Still, the guy's Australian. A disappointment to my country.

The reason it took so long for the book to come out was because they didn't know they were going to write the book.
