I Suggest that we should disallow email from ICQ. Because that's what the most of the advertising bots/people are having.

Even if we do that it won't stop them signing up, every forum has at least a few bots it varies from time to time. Sometimes theres hardly any other times there're god knows how many.

How about adding more security stuff.(I remember what's the site name)

The only solution I can think of would be member approval before being able to post, but that can take forever on more active forums like here.
keep reportin 'em. But how the fuck these bots are getting into the diaries is baffling me

Don't we have captcha? If we do then either they came up with a way past it or a person signs the bot up. Sad and annoying.

I really have no idea. It's been that long :P
Captcha sounds like a great idea to at least slow it down

Captcha is too easy to break now-a-days. Really we need reCaptcha.

What's the difference?

To the average user? Nothing.
To a bot? Everything.
A bot can generally decipher a Captcha within the usual 5 tries allowed.
A reCaptcha can almost never be deciphered by a bot, and would require actual humans to read it.
So to us? Having a reCaptcha instead of a Captcha means less bots.

What are bots.

Bots are pretty much automated web crawlers, that find forums, register on the forums, and post whatever they were programed to.
Usually they post advertisements (Spambots), but sometimes they can try and flood out a forum(Floodbots).

Have we ever had a flood bot? I can't tell the difference. :P

Don't add Captcha, I can't stand it.

Last time I checked you had to go thru a CAPTCHA to register. (btw I think the use of CAPTCHAs should only be for registering, not for posting).
And sure, CAPTCHA's are somewhat annoying. But bots are much worse. To you sir, I say "too bad".

Anything to get rid of bots, or slow them down.
Just check out the community tab> member list, click the join date, category make the arrow point down wards, and check out the new bots that joined today. It's getting kind of ridiculous

Well I use a simple question+answer on mine.
Yesterday we had 66 signups from bots. I installed the question+answer at 10PM, today we've had 0 signups.

Note on the sudden bot-age on a rather ironic thread for it
Bot's been frozen.
There aren't any seniors online right now, so there's nothing we can do about the posts ATM
For the love of god don't click any links
[rather, aaron just got on as i was posting]

Correction: We had re-captcha which has now been cracked so we have reverted to Q&A for registration. Should solve the problem to prevent a lot of them. Thanks for your patience, and cooperation.
