If someone aborts a viable child, should the be able to have IVF immediately afterwards? Should there be some kind of required waiting time?

I'll hack my response from that thread ...
No, to answer your question. I don't agree with designer babies unless there are strong medical grounds, and I mean something like screening out a genetic illness, but not to choose gender or other traits.
I'm all for abortion, its subsidising MORE babies that pisses me off. I think there are too many people for too few resources as it is, so we should be trying to reduce the population not increase it. This is one of those "needs of the many outweight the needs of the few" situations.

How long do you feel they should have to wait?

I don't think they should get another chance at all, if they abort a viable child cos its the wrong gender, eye colour whatever.
Other than that, if there was a strong medical reason for the abortion AND they have <2 children already (for zero population growth), I don't see why they should wait (other than whatever is safe to allow the woman to recover).

Absolutely not.
Why abort a viable child?
Abortion can be a very iffy subject. Obviously, the human population it at an alarming increasing rate, but at the same time, I do feel abortion is pratically murder.
After all, a fetus, no matter how small, is still a living organism. They physically differ in looks compared to an infant, just the way an infant looks diffrent from an adult.
I believe unless the mother`s life is at steak, abortion should be illegal.
If the mother didn`t wish to conceive a child, she shoulden`t of had sex in the first place (excluding raping) I`m a big fan of adoption, there are plenty people in the world, unable to conceive and not, who wish to adopt. I myself plan to adopt one day.
As far as for IFV`s, I`m not to big a fan of this as well. If the mother is unable to conceive, then I believe it`s fine. But to take the route of IFV, just because you want to create the 'perfect child' ? No.
You should love your child, regardless gender, eye color, or anything else.

Its quite a lot more than looks.
Strikes me that compulsory neutering for the parents is probably much kinder all round.

Why shouldn't they be able to?

as I am pro-choice...the woman should do it if she really wants to, though I don't really like the idea of doing it just to have a child that meets what you want...

a year.
If you're getting an abortoin, you're saying i'm not ready for a child.
in a year, things can change. any less, and you could've just as easily have had the baby and gotten shit together in that time.

If the aborted child was born from rape or by accident then by all means go ahead with IVF when you are ready. But if the person wants to get IVF using the sperm of the same man then that is a problem and she should seek help first because clearly she isn't fit to raise a child.
