View Full Version : How much is too much training?

Ok so I am not trying to get huge and ripped here, I just want to be toned and fit. So last term I was doing a lot of swimming and rowing. I figure each week I was doing about 6 hours of rowing trainign which is intense, and at least 3 hours of swimming plus PE and stuff.

So i'm going to be doing badminton after school too now (its easier for my parents to pick me up later and this fills in the gap). I think this would be good to keep me 'fast', so thats two nights of about 3 hours total.

I also was thinking about increasing the swimming too.

Is that all too much, and what are the problems. I'm worried about injuries and stunting my growth and stuff like that. I could be looking at 12-15 hours per week with possibly 3 hours on a couple of days sometimes.

Thanks :)

Really with traning and exercise it comes down to what you can do, if you feel more pain than the 'burn' stop and cut down but also your around the same year as me and i don't have time to work that hard with school as well but if you can just don't spreed yourself too thin.

Yeah i have to get to the pool for 6:30 3 days a week which sucks. I've been that all last term so I think I can add the extra evenings. The worst is when they make us do cross country in PE instead of gym on the day I've already been swimming.

My school is BIG on sport so pe is intense and i do softball and youth fitness club.
My trick is i do all my easy work at school so i have time to play after school softball.

Do you do the run and then the weights or alternate days or something? They usually get us to do a short run or some airobics before we do weights when we're training for rowing to get the heart rate up, but 5 miles would be at lot for me before weights.

Essentialy This is a very common topic. You should not ever train to your max as it will cause, illness, Groth Stunning and Injury. Since I see your 14 with sports we give this advice. (any person any age. To Recover take 1 day interval between Gym Training), i will be true and say i train weights 3 hours a week and rugby/cricket training 7 hours a week so 10hours practice a week max but matches of sports i dont post a limit as is very often less demanding then training.

You won't get injured from too much, just from doing it wrong.
Stop for a bit if you get really tired, but other than that it's good to do lots.

Too much training is when your legs are about to drop off.

Work out routine is depend on your body structure and your energy level.
all the exercise is depend on the strength of your body, who support you in
exercise.

When you workout, work out maybe 4 times a week and let yourself rest in between workout days. Rest is the MOST important part of losing weight, getting stronger, etc. You NEED to let your body rest or you won't do anything but wreck yourself. If you want to be toned, do more Reps and sets, with lower weights. That's what tones you. If you are ever interested in getting bigger with mass, then do High weights, low reps. When you add cardio to your workout, do it at the end of your weightlifting workout. Do maybe 5 minutes, or how much ever you are comfortable with. As long as you arent dieing of a heart attack when you are done then you should be fine. Don't exhaust yourself though. Don't do it 6 times a week. That is just ruining and wrecking your body. 4-5 tops. Have a good diet too.

you should train every other day, every day = stun groth and illness from body abuse same for doing too many hours a day max 2.5 hours a day
