Hmm you could have much worse things happen you know :P
You should expect quite a bit of pain / discomfort immediately after the operation which should slowly subside after 2 weeks or so (but of course this will vary from person to person depending on various factors). You should be offered some form of pain relief during this period (most likely an NSAID such as ibuprofen) which should help to alleviate some of the pain and will help to reduce swelling. You may well not feel at all like wanting to eat anything straight after the operation and you may not feel like drinking much either but it's important to make sure you drink as much as you can and that you eat when possible - will all help speed up the recovery.
I've not had mine out but know lots of people that have, it's really not that bad an operation.

IV's don't hurt. At least mine didn't :P
It's probably the most irritating thing in the world, but you'll be fine. ^^

The only thing that hurt me was the IV...but it only hurt because at the time I was terrified of needles :P The best part is all the ice pops :D

It's not to bad, they should give you medication for the pain, but it's awesome because you get to eat all the ice cream you want. =D
You'll be fine, just a little soar. And you can't talk for a bit afterwards,
