Should nursing mothers still be allowed to breast feed their child in Public?

In case you havent noticed, there has been tons of backlash against nursing mothers who breast feed their child in public places, like the park or even airplanes(read article in VT Chronicle).

amy phoeler is so funny, back when i used to be an SNL freak she and tina fey made my saturday nights. Anyway, breast feeding in public shouldnt be a crime at all, maybe if the mother didnt have a cover or anything, but even that is a strech.

you can't let a baby starve, so there is no choice. i have seen a mother breastfeed her 8 month baby at school when i was in first grade in a open house night, at while while ago i thought it was disgusting but now i think of it as natural as going to the bathrrom.

I personally don't like it when women breastfeed in public and her breasts are on full display. If the woman has the decency to cover as much as possible then I am fine with it.

But you relize that you are saying that because society tells you it is gross. It is nature, it's not like she is flashing everybody and being vulger. She is just doing what nature intended brests to be for.

How is it disgusting? What did you think breasts were for? Breastmilk is one of the most complex foods on the planet, you can't seriously believe that baby formula is actually healthy for a baby. The benefits of breastmilk over formula are endless, including, but not limited to; increased IQ, 1/2 the risk of SIDS(Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), a healthier immune system, a greater bond between the mother and child, and less swelling of the breasts after giving birth due to the milk being drained off. Not to mention it probably tastes better. If breastfeeding is wrong then please, shoot me now, I really can't see how it can be viewed as indecent.

Have you ever seen little children do that? Young children actually tend to be more mature about nudity than older children because they don't "know" yet that it's "indecent".

Nudity is taught by society as "wrong".
Its kinda sick how the government dictates our social norms.

It' pulic exposure. If that is allowed then we should assume that Janet Jackson was going to breast feed Justin Timberlake. Read my comment in the VTDC thread.

Question to girls in this forum: If the baby's starving and starts to cry, you're walking in the streets, you see a bank near the park, and theres no bathroom near that you know... that would you do??

Lol I <3 you popo :D

Great sarcasm anyway

There is nothing to discuss it is completly normal it is natural it is necessary and it is vital for the babies health. So whoever thinks that its unmoral realy needs to look at him/herself

I think society just needs to give it a rest. The girl's swimsuits that they wear nowadays would get girls arrested in the 1920's. Soon the sight of breasts themselves will be accepted. More people would NOT care than people WOULD, it's just that the people who do care complain too much.

I don't think its immoral. Infact I agree that letting a baby starve is worse than breast feeding in public. But what I am saying is that women should understand that not everyone is going to be ok with both breasts on full display (as mentioned previously) or such things. Yes its natural, but I would rather them cover up as much as poss.

This whole thing begets another question.
Where does it end. Say we get rid of laws against public exposure.
So then some pervert walks up to you takes his pants of and starts waving his penis at you in a sick manner. He can't get in trouble hes not breaking the law.
Or would these laws be just for breastfeeding.

Tell me why do you think this leads to what you say it will..? It doesnt make any sense and is idiotic and I havent realy seen any mothers who pull off their shirts and breastfeed their child

I say breastfeeding in public is fine. BUT if we decide its ok to expose yourself in public it could lead to this ^

The "public exposure" law can only talk about breast when necessary (child hungry)... not to penises and vaginas!

Yes, I think there should be laws allowing women to expose breasts in public for breastfeeding but we shouldn't also have to allow people to whip out their genital organs too.

I think that someday society will accept it but not tomorrow, or the next, day, or this year or next year. But it won't take TOO long.

Because breast feeding is natural, i will say that it should be allowed in public.

Urinating is natural, so should that be public, too?

Um that's stinky and it's a waste product, and it is public.

Are you counting "public" as public bathrooms, then?

0=
December 18th, 2006, 01:08 PM
Not as public as breast feeding, but it is still public as many restrooms don't have barriers between the urinals.

i have read tons of stuff about this in the papers, and i'm really upset with what i see, how can people tell mothers not to be mothers, i mean if you baby needs milk, your baby needs milk !! and THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A MOTHER CARING FOR HER CHILD.

seriously i don't know why people are complaning ?? this is just love.......

just to add on,,,,,,, i was in a restraunt once and a woman was breastfeeding her child in a quite corner as her baby had been crying (probably from hunger) she was really good in the sense that she picked a quite spot where she could be seen the least-she even got out of her seat to do so. (there were no toilets or other places she could do it) next to my table there was another woman with her family and when she saw that women brestfeeding she was appauled she asked the weitress to remove her and a few other people sitting around her smiled with agreemant. so that lady had to be removed from the restraunt and her own family was also asked to leave. now when this happed many of us in the restraunt were really unhappy and decided to leave in protest that was about half of us in there.

from this experience you could actually wonder how unresonable people are !!!!! i even heard the woman who complained say to her husband; "brestfeeding in public how obscene!! i wonder is she does the same to her husband." i mean WTF man how can a women be punished along with her family for feeding a baby.
