so one of my karate senseis was telling us about equivelant force. meaning that you dont go all out and break a guys arm for pushing you. with this would it mean that if someone tried to stab you with a knife and you broke his arm and he hadnt harmed you, would you be implicated by law for assult? its somthing that ive pondered because i am all for things like concealed carrying of firearms for protection and for if someone tries to hurt you, you better hurt back, atleast until he is no longer a threat. what are your thoughts on this?

Probably not, defending yourself from an assault with a deadly weapon gives you license to do a lot of damage to the other guy.

Castration by force should be legal as self-defense. Whoever pushes you still is deserving for it.

It shouldn't really be about the acutal damage they've done but how much they intended to do and how much force it will take for them to go away. That's probably what your sensei meant.

Basically, just do whatever it takes to protect yourself but don't go over the top. If someone's pulled a gun/knife on you, do what you can to ensure that they can't pick it up again and hurt you with it.

The aim of self-defence is to disarm and/or disable an opponent. But hell someone tries to take me on i'll jack their shit up like there's no tomorrow.
