If you're going to try inserting anything that is not made for the purpose of inserting, then you should always be cautious.
Although sharing techniques is against the rules, I will say that anything you insert should be made clean or have a condom over it to be sure. Also note, that things that aren't made to be inserted may cause damage, so if you do decide to do this, be careful with what you use.
