Who all agrees that Eminems the greatest lyricist of all time?

Eminem is the most overrate lyricist of all time. I don't know why people like him, but I know some kids that can conceive mind blowing lyrics, that will make Eminem's lyrics sound like shitty nonsense.

No hes not the only rapper i listen to. I listen to a lot of different rappers but there's no other rapper out there that one can relate to as much as Eminem.
There's at least one Eminem song that everyone can relate to.

"Eminem is the best. He's so deep. He's the only rapper that talks about real life...almost everyone else talks about money, crime bitches and drugs."
^ Fucking rage!
Honestly, the only way someone could actually agree with this, is if Eminem is basically the only rap you listen to.
and No sex, drugs and killing?
Maybe you should try actually listening to the artist that you think is the best lyricist ever. He talked about sex drugs and murder all the time...
uysyOAhXsSw
^ I actually liked him back when he was trolling the world with shocking and offensive humor. (trolling that you can see at 1:27...when he convinces a man to rape a drunk 15yo at a party).
But he hasnt made anything worth listen to since The Marshall Mathers LP(like 10 yrs ago!), Recovery was medicocre and Relapse was complete shit.

Not the greatest, but pretty great.
Eminem is the only rap I like. All other is just shit about sex drugs and money, not worth the paper the lyrics are written on. But Eminem is great.

Yer hes done songs that have got funny lyrics to them
But to be honest would you listen to an album with complete 100% lyrics about people dying and shizz ...
but listen to songs like 'When Im Gone'
Then you will see what im on about !
Swear down ... try finding ONE song that LilWayne has done that doesnt involve sex/money/drugs ... i love himm but his songs are something i wouldnt play infront of my mom ... !
His song Lose Yourself is the longest running number 1 hip hop single of all time !
he is soo flexable working with people from Rihanna Maralyn Manson
Not many rap artists can say they have done that tbh

Nope. Unless he has songs about necrophilia...
You obviously haven't listened to most underground rappers. P.O.S and Eyedea are great with lyrics in rap music.

Dont get me wrong, it's okay if Eminem is your favorite rapper ever and one of the few rappers that you listen to...but if you do hold this position, you're really in no place to legitimately comment on the best lyricists ever. Yes he's one of the few mainstream rappers that actually has a little bit of depth and can rap somewhat relevant lyrics...but i shouldnt have to sift through albums full of his played out crazy pill popping white boy style, a now talentless Dr. Dre's production, an annoying voice and his increasingly lame offensive jokes, just to get a song or two with meaningful lyrics...songs that underground rappers make everyday.

This kinda sums up the whole thread here. I'm sorry, but saying Em is the best lyricist ever shows a lack of knowledge on the genre and is disrespecful to the thousands of underground MCs and classic hip hop lyricists that can rap circles around Slim Shady. Like Phonte from Little Brother for example...
9th Wonder feat. Phonte - Almost Genuine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP8fMC48HpA) (Phonte's verse at 1:35)
Little Brother - Speed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1e1wEGGQFg) (0:14)
Little Brother - Sirens (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkP4oZzYQAk) (2:00)
Little Brother - On The Way (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l0-AMHiCHs) (0:19)
Little Brother - Boondock Saints (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoz8JmaoD4M) (1:05) < summing up his whole experience in the music industry
Rappers like Phonte are lyrically way better than Eminem and they talk about "real life" a lot more than Eminem does...but does anyone listen to them?
No. Most people would rather only listen to the radio.

Eminem is my favorite rapper ever. I do listen to other rappers too.
I love all of his songs and the fact that he tells the real deal.
But I wouldn't go far and say he's the greatest lyricist ever. There's definitly better then him. I'd agree best rap lyricist but not overall.

Never mind people like 2Pac, DMX, Proof, Theory, Vinnie Paz, Biggie, Immortal Technique, Common, Lauryn Hill, and Nas?
And that's just off the top of my head. I wish I knew the thousands of underground rappers easily MUCH better than Eminem.
EDIT: And thats just in rap. There are amazing lyricists in other genres of music, too.

Because your making you self sound like that. ^-^
Eminem worked hard and made his way from the underground.
so please tell me what underground rappers your talking about that made it big like Eminem?

That's the thing. You don't have to make it big to be in the music industry. And just because Eminem is white doesn't mean he's the best rapper. Eyedea was a great rapper too and was white. Did you ever see his name at the top of the charts?

What the hell does race have to do with being a good lyricist(or musical artist in general)?
I can name plenty of white rappers that are better than Eminem. In fact, a lot of the best hip hop artists of all-time are white.
Eminem worked hard and made his way from the underground.
so please tell me what underground rappers your talking about that made it big like Eminem?
The people im talking about havent made it big...that's my point...they dont get enough recognition
...and there's loads of mainstream rappers that started underground.

OK kid I am sorry, Eminem IS NOT the best lyricist of all time, and he IS NOT the worst of all time. HE HAS become the most over rated rapper right now. His new material IS SHIT....Absolute shit. He has become sooo mainstream and so plain. Yes he was mainstream, but his lyrics were entertaining and they made you laugh..now it just bores you...for me it does anyway.
HERE COMPARE THESE LYRICS.. One is an Eminem song and one is a 2Pac song (who has such, such, such true lyrics)
First song: Love the Way you Lie.....
[Chorus - Rihanna]
just gonna stand there and watch me burn
that’s alright because i like the way it hurts
just gonna stand there and hear me cry
that’s alright because i love the way you lie
i love the way you lie
[Eminem - Verse 1]
i can’t tell you what it really is
i can only tell you what it feels like
and right now it’s a steel knife in my windpipe
i can’t breathe but i still fight while i can fight
as long as the wrong feels right it’s like i’m in flight
high off of love drunk from my hate
it’s like i’m huffin’ paint and i love it the more i suffer, i suffocate
and right before i’m about to drown, she resuscitates me, she fuckin’ hates me
and i love it, wait, where you goin’?
i’m leavin’ you, no you ain’t come back
we’re runnin’ right back, here we go again
so insane, cause when it’s goin’ good its goin’ great
i’m superman with the wind in his back, she’s Lois Lane
but when its bad its awful, i feel so ashamed i snap
whose that dude? i don’t even know his name
i laid hands on her
i never stoop so low again
i guess i don’t know my own strength
[chorus]
[Eminem - Verse 2]
you ever love somebody so much you can barely breathe
when you with em you meet and neither one of you even know what hit em
got that warm fuzzy feeling
yeah them chills used to get em
now you’re getting fuckin’ sick of lookin’ at em
you swore you’d never hit em, never do nothin’ to hurt em
now you’re in each other’s face spewin’ venom in your words when you spit em
you push pull each other’s hair
scratch claw hit em throw em down pin em
so lost in the moments when you’re in em
it’s the face that’s the culprit, controls ya both,
so they say it’s best to go your seperate ways
guess that they don’t know ya
http://www.elyricsworld.com/love_the_way_you_lie_lyrics_eminem.html
cause today that was yesterday
yesterday is over, it’s a different day
sound like broken records playin’ over
but you promised her next time you’ll show restraint
you don’t get another chance
life is no nintendo game, but you lied again,
now you get to watch her leave out the window
guess that’s why they call it window pane
[Chorus]
[Eminem - Verse 3]
now i know we said things, did things, that we didn’t mean
and we fall back into the same patterns, same routine
but your temper’s just as bad as mine is, you’re the same as me
when it comes to love you’re just as blinded
baby please come back, it wasn’t you, baby it was me
maybe our relationship isn’t as crazy as it seems
maybe that’s what happens when a tornado meets a volcano
all i know is i love you too much to walk away though
come inside, pick up the bags off the sidewalk
don’t you hear sincerity in my voice when i talk?
told you this is my fault, look me in the eyeball
next time i’m pissed ill aim my fist at the drywall
next time there won’t be no next time
i apologize even though i know its lies
i’m tired of the games i just want her back
i know i’m a liar if she ever tries to fuckin’ leave again
i’ma tie her to the bed and set this house on fire
NEXT SONG: 2Pac - Panther Power
[Tupac]
As real as it seems the American Dream
Ain't nothing but another calculated schemes
To get us locked up shot up back in chains
To deny us of the future rob our names
Kept my history of mystery but now I see
The American Dream wasn't meant for me
Cause lady liberty is a hypocrite she lied to me
Promised me freedom, education, equality
Never gave me nothing but slavery
And now look at how dangerous you made me
Calling me a mad man cause I'm strong and bold
With this dump full of knowledge of the lies you told
Promise me emancipation indispute nation
All you gave my people was our patience
Fathers of our country never cared for me
They kept my answer shackled up in slavery
And Uncle Sam never did a dam thing for me
Except lie about the facts in my history
So now I'm sitting hear mad cause I'm unemployed
But the government's glad cause they enjoyed
When my people are down so they can screw us around
Time to change the government now panther power
[Chorus]
Panther power
Panther power
Panther power
[Tyson]
Coming straight that resides within
Go toe to toe with a panther and you just can't win
Suffered fame bats suppressed the rest
The rich get richer and the poor can't last
The American Dream was an American nightmare
You kept my people down and refuse to fight fair
The Klu Klux Klan tried to keep us out
Besides drew they know no blacks allowed
With intimidation and segregation was a way for our freedom
But now were impatient
Blacks the other skin: dead or sell outs
Freedom, equality, then I'll yell out
"Don't you ever be ashamed of what you are
It's ya panther power that makes you a star"
Panther power
[Chorus]
Panther power
Panther power
Panther power
[Tupac]
My Mother never let me forget my history
Hoping I was set free chains never put on me
Wanted to be more than just free
Had to know the true facts about my history
I couldn't settle for being a statistic
Couldn't survive in this capitalistic
Government cause it was meant to hold us back
Using ignorant, drugs, to sneak attack
In my community think of unity
But when I charged them, tried to claim immunity
I strike America like a case of hard disease
Panther power is running through my arteries
Try to stop oh boy you'll be clawed to death
Cause I'll be fighting for my freedom with my dying breath
Do you remember that is what I'm asking you?
You think you living free don't let me laugh at you
Open your eyes realize that you have been locked in chains
Said you wasn't civilized and stole your name
Cause some time has passed seem you all forget
There ain't no liberty to you and me we all ain't free yet
Panter power
[Chorus]
Panther power
Panther power
Panther power
[Tupac]
As real as it seems the American Dream
Ain't nothing but another calculated schemes
To get us locked up shot up back in chains
To deny us of the future rob our names

Simply because LTWYL is basically his number one song now and everyone seems to know it...it seems like all the girls at my school now think he is the best rapper/lyricist based off that one song. It's garbage.

Hate is what made Eminem successful.

are idiots and aren't true fans like me.

Eminem did something that the other rappers never did...other rappers were respected at first and made their way up but Eminem went through too much shit before he even had a hit and style, he ended up with an elevator in his house. :P
So before you compare 2 artist compare songs from the same time in there career. :D

Oh so then Trey Must be MUCH BETTER THAN EMINEM! Because he started in the early 80's, has a much better following of people, (Only out rivaled by The Dead) and the songs are so much better written. No one can tell me when they sit down to Phish that their songs are straight ill.

Kid you know NOTHING about rap if you think Eminem is the only rapper to ever get put through hell.. Why don't you do some research on the early rap scene when it first broke out..and by the way, I am a Eminem fan...His first two albums were good and then it slowly went down hill.

Oh and by the way, you're still a kid, so don't go bullshitting. You are right though about people being idiots if they like his new stuff. I am with you on that.

Sorry mr.16 year old who says he knows a lot about the early rap game!
So you telling me there's rappers out there who've made it big like Eminem that had no father, no friends (until he met proof), a mother that hated him, raised in a black neighborhood (were he would get beat up as a kid for being white), Hit on the head when he was 11 by some black kid with a block of ice and stayed in a comma for 5 days and when he woke up he was terrified and had spaz attacks or whatever, whenever he seen a person that reminded him of his attacker, His father figure (Ronny) committed suicide when he was young, Went to many different schools (were he would get bullied everyday), he got rejected by people all the time, even though he was a really talented rapper. But he still made it!
AND the night before heading to the rap Olympics in LA Em broke into his old house and slept on the floor!
I can go on but please tell me what other rapper that made it and went through a hard time like Em?

Living in a difficult time and place only to make it big in the music industry does NOT make you a good lyricist. It makes you fortunate. And better rappers than Eminem, people with better LYRICS than Eminem, which is what this thread is about, have been unfortunate enough not to have their name held in such high regard.
Eminem was a good lyricist. Then he, like many others in the music industry, became victim to the pile of shit that is mainstream music. I know indie folk bands with better lyrics than his recent albums.
Edit: I take it no one here has listened to Eminem's old albums (Curtains Down, The Eminem Show, Encore)? There were lots of songs there that I could commend him for. But his recent stuff... no. Just no.

I can't say I've given that much hate. I dont really hate him, ive listened to a lot of Eminem albums and i've been listening to him since elementary school...when he dropped the Marshall Mathers LP.
Hate is what made Eminem successful.
Typical defense of the mainstream. While partially true, is that really something that an artist should be proud of?
I barely listen to rap nowadays anyway cause its all gone down the tubes.
I am dissapoint, son.

I like his really old albums...Infinite(his first studio album, which fucking no one listens to) and the Slim Shady LP are my personal favorites.

It's not uncommon to have a rough life and certainly has nothing at all to do with talent...if you want an example of a rough life and a "rags to bitches" story, try one of the most famous rappers of all time...2pac.

Teeth marks on the skin
The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing me that I was him
We like the feel of blood and fat dripping of our gums
She likes to talk directly down the barrel of her gun
Learning to perfect the ancient art of quiet rape
You've always been so warm and calculated I owe you a thanks
Eyes wide shut, I promise not to fall awake
Lick the guillotine and tell you how the gasoline tastes.
The grass is always greener on the other pesticide
solemn precious crept through the mess to shed it's infectious high
Words for me to know and you to find
As you were saying about best lyricist, again?

I'm sorry but I agree with the original person eminem is the greatest lyracist ever! His music just seems so genuine and true! Although to be fair I listen to very little rap it's not really my thing.

Kid, I may be 16, but you have no idea who I am and how much smartness I posses, even my philosophy on life. Anyway, i'm not gonna bother with your dumb ass, he isn't the only motherfucker who was dealt a bad card, there are a ton more out there. You're just another fan boy who probably wants to suck his dick.

The only song I've liked by him is Love the Way You Lie with Rihanna. However it's the only song I've listened to by him I believe. So I can't agree or disagree! ^_^ However I must say he DOES talk about murder. In that song he talks about tying a girl to the bed or somehting, I can't exactly remember, and then lighting the house on fire. I can't say I can relate to it. The only line I can relate to is I like the way it hurts.

Eminem is the most overrate lyricist of all time. I don't know why people like him, but I know some kids that can conceive mind blowing lyrics, that will make Eminem's lyrics sound like shitty nonsense.
