View Full Version : Biggest ripoff ever

So, a few days before christmas I got a noise complaint from the neighbours and I had some money and spent £60 ($80 give or take) on a pair of Philips wireless FM headphones. Hooked them up to the stereo and was surpirsed to find out they sound absolutely awful for a set in their price range. Tried taking them back to the shop but the package was opened and they wouldn't give me my money back. I'm now royally pissed.
The problem is when a song gets louder they get quieter and vice-versa. I think it's to do with the FM transmission. They're also rediculously quiet and past fifteen on the stereo it makes no difference (my stereo goes up to 40 and you can hear it on the speakers believe me). I do a lot of amateur audio production, produce my own demos, etc, so own a headphone amplifier which made no difference whatsoever.
Does anyone have any advice as to how to make these things more listenable? I'm at my wits end here and I don't want my money to go down the drain.
Thanks. :)

... How about just turning your radio down?

If you don't want them try eBay.

Go straight to the manufacturers if its not working. They would probably give you a new pair, or different type of similiar headphones.

Or craigslist. That always works.

Then it gets even quieter than it already is. :P Loud parts are still quiet and vice-versa. I think its got something to do with the amount of bass in a part of a song.
Tried ebay. Had them up for a week, no takers. :( I'd go to the manufacturer but they technically do work, they're just really, really shit.
Appreciate the advice though, guys. Thinking of just unloading them on someone I don't particularly like. :P

Shoulda gone with Skullcandy. I just bought a new pair of Skullcandy Hesh headphones, and they sound great. The bass is amazing, the sound is perfect, it dulls everything in the area and makes sure you can only hear the music. It's comfortable too. The only thing I've heard bad about them is that they're a bit fragile, which I'm fine with since I'm not really one to break things I cherish. And, it was affordable. I bought these headphones for $32 on Amazon (£24).
But if you don't want to buy a new pair go to the manufactures. They should give you a new pair or a similar one (as Jason said).

Knowing what you supposedly do about audio, why didn't you go with a brand like Sennheiser? Philips I mean they're good for DVD players and TVs but you should have at least read some reviews. Oh well, shit happens. Did you get them with a warranty? You could just open them up and "accidentally" break a wire then take them back.

No. I meant, you said your neighbor complained about the noise, so you got headphones.
So how about you just take out the headphones and turn the volume down...

I'd love a set of Sennheisers but I was looking for something wireless and they didn't do anything in my price range. I should've just got a decent set with a cable. As for the warranty... that may be an option. ;)

I like my music loud. What more can I say? Plus, ever since they made the complaint they've been listening out for me to make any noise whatsoever and then complain about it. They woke me up the night I posted this to accuse me of singing loudly in the shower. Best comeback of my life though: "Do I look like I've showered?" :P
