Okay, so I had an evaluation today. My family is pretty disfunctional, my social worker wants to put me into a group home. My dad has a little bit of a violent nature. Does anybody have experiences with group homes, or what they are like?

Group homes are all different. The ones we have in Canada are not great though. The government does not have the money for all the children who end up there. Likelihood is you may end up sharing a room with someone who is highly violent or some other quality you would normally not like. You do not get to go out as often as you may like and certain privileges you would normally have would be restricted. It's more to keep everyone safe.

Often you will be stuck too. In Canada, Children's Aid cannot help you after the age of 16. If you are in their care before then, you're stuck with them until you're 18. See what I mean? At 16 you can move out but with Children's Aid you get the financial support as long as you sign yourself into their care...

I'm not saying it will be terrible or have all those little catches because this is Canada and not the US. It could be a very good thing for you. It could be a MUCH better situation for you. I say that you should do what you believe is best. Just know to ask the right questions first and make sure you know exactly what you're doing.

Good luck and best wishes!

(For how I know... my dad is a police officer and we've had Children's Aid involved with my family before.)
