What you were doing is rubbing an area called the frenulum. The frenulum is a piece of skin at the underside of the penis head that connects to the shaft. It is very sensitive, and helps the foreskin retract over the penis head.

Some people who are circumcised have this removed visibly, but it may still have some of the nerves left over.
