View Full Version : I'll probably try marijuana

I have a lot of facts, and I have concluded that the only real risk in smoking pot is getting caught with it. But I live in a pretty relaxed city when it comes to pot, but the high-wealth suburb i live in may not be so easy-going.
Any do's/don'ts when it comes to being safe and responsible with it?

The thing is that it is a drug and although you might have no physical addiction to it, you might have and emotional addiction. Also if your underage and get caught, its in your record and looks bad for scholarships and collages. Think of what your family and friends would think. Dont do it dude. Its not worth it.

I've heard from a few people that you don't feel the effects the first time you try it. It's kind of hard to be safe and responsible, especially since pot affects every person differently. Some people can function rather well and feel good when high and others may feel extremely scared or paranoid.

If you feel that you are ready for it, that you are responsible enough to not get caught and to keep it as a recreational thing, then I would say to do whatever you want.
It seems like you are responsible enough to make your own decisions, so do what you want :)

The only "don't" I can think of is don't get caught. So before you do it, think if it's worth the risk of getting caught.

Make sure that you know where the weed has come from. If it looks suspicious / a friend says it doesn't smell right, don't smoke it.
Make sure that you only consume a small amount of cannabis the first time you smoke it. As has been said, some people feel nothing the first time, some people will become stoned off of their faces. Take it easy first go round.
Do NOT smoke the cannabis if you can help it. As with any form of combustion, tons of crap will be released from the plant material which you really don't want in your lungs. If you have the option, vaporise it / consume it via edibles.
If you are going to smoke it, do NOT smoke it with tobacco. You should know the health risks of that.
Make sure that you smoke it with someone else / some other friends and make sure one of you stays sober (doesn't get high) to look after anyone who becomes ill. Fairly rare but does happen.
Go into the smoking / vaporising / eating session in a good mood / with good, positive thoughts. This will lessen the chance of any immediate paranoia, bad trips e.t.c.
Be aware that the 'munchies' are quite common. Limit what food is readily available so that you're not hammering in the calories.
Make sure that your session is in a well lit and safe place. Make sure you get nice a comfortable and try to feel as relaxed as possible.
Make sure you have a good amount of time (6-10 hours) after the END of the actual smoking / consumption session. There's a good chance you'll want to just sleep afterwards and it's totally irresponsible to try to drive (or anything which requires concentration where if it went wrong, you could harm others).
Lastly, and most importantly, if at ANY time you feel you don't want to consume any cannabis / you want to stop, then stop and walk away. The worse thing to do is to force yourself to consume more than you want to and ruin the experience.

One main concern is supporting other drugs/ unethical production methods. How can I be sure to avoid that?

You can't really. Even if you know the dealer he probably doesn't know his supplier all that well. To be honest, with cannabis it's not such a worry as with major drugs like coke and heroin since, where I live at least, most of it comes from inside the country. But yeah, best advice I can give is when and if you choose to buy, try and get it from someone who you know isn't selling anything else. There's less of a chance that you'll be pumping your money into serious organised crime.

Dude...it's not your job to regulate the economy. You're already supporting something illegal, just because cocaine and heroin are more illegal doesn't make it any less "unethical".
You remind me a lot of myself. You did your research and are prepared to make a decision on marijuana because of your own experience, NOT someone else's opinion.
A couple tips I have:
You have to BREATHE. It took me several times smoking weed to get high. It's a weird feeling when you first start because you don't know how to inhale something that isn't oxygen. You just have to breathe in and hold it in your lungs - not your mouth, not your throat, not anything else. It's hard the first time, and this is usually why people don't get high.
Try as hard as possible to not cough. Once you start coughing, it takes a while to stop. If you inhale too much, let it out. It's better than going into a coughing fit. Sometimes swallowing helps me to avoid coughing.
Do it outside if possible. Some people REALLY collect the smell of smoke, and you don't want to hotbox a car and go home with that smell.
Don't hotbox! At least not the first time. It's a lot of smoke. You won't know what to do with yourself (although you'll definitely get high).
Bring a drink. Slurpees are the best. They're cold and refreshing, and you want to avoid cotton mouth as much as possible.
Bring gum. Just in case your breath smells of anything, that'll take care of it.
Don't get caught. Seriously. I've heard stories ranging from "yeah he just took our weed and piece" to "yeah I had to call my parents". Find a good spot, somewhere that someone can't just happen upon you. You need to be able to see someone coming and have a story for why you're there. If you're with the opposite sex (or same sex, if you roll that way), you can always tell the cops you were making out.
Good luck! Update the thread to let us know about your experience.
EDIT: DISCLAIMER: I am not condoning the use of marijuana, or any other illegal activities. Every person is liable for his/her own decisions, and my posts are to be taken for advice ONLY, not as a persuasion to partake in certain things.

the only main tip i can give you is just know your limits. Before you smoke, you should try to limit yourself to maybe a few hits/1 bowl. You may not feel anything at first or not anything at all, but no one should ever try to become a mega smoker to where they try to smoke $100 worth of weed for their first time/day. Trust me, the first time i tried, i smoked an eighth *about $70* between me and 3 other friends who been smoking for a while, and i got sh!t faced hard to where it felt like i was having an out-of-body experience, but just a fun experience. Try to limit yourself to maybe .3-.6 grams your first time, just to get a slight sensation of how it feels to be high, but still be able to control yourself. Then after a few other times, you can continually ramp up your dosage to where you are comfortable, but not to where you either cant stand up or you are acting completely stupid in front of people.

Maybe it really didn't phase you, but I can't see someone with that traumatizing of an experience only posting one sentence about it. Just an FYI, weed alone won't kill someone. Smoking weed til death is unheard of. If your story is true, and I do have some doubt, then there was something else going on there.

Do it with a friend.
Don't drive.
If you think you've smoked a good bit but you don't think you're high, wait 5-10 minutes, you might surprise yourself. xD
Get food and other things to amuse yourself beforeeee you smoke.
Don't answer phone calls until you've mellowed into your high.
Don't run from the cops, they will catch you most likely and the punishment will be 10x worse.
If you ever get arrested, just remember that doesn't mean you're being charged or taken to jail. :P

I deleted your other post. That was ridiculous, and against the rules (and not just because it was a massive spamwall). To remind you, and everyone else:
2. Advocation of opinions - You should not, advocate your opinion, as better than or more worthy than another's, in terms of the use of drugs. For example "Do drugs" will not be tolerated, nor will "don't do drugs". That is suggesting outright for someone to change their behavior, which will not be tolerated.
I don't want any more violation of this rule in this thread, thanks.

My experience: i did it alone a few times and stopped for 6 months. Then a few of my friends went out and brought me along, and I got legit stoned. I didn't know what to do with myself. Unfortunately my parents used find my iPhone and showed up. It felt like a scene from a movie lol. I don't smoke anymore.

Honestly cops aren't going to arrest you if you're underage unless you are doing something else illegal and they add it on to make your charges more extensive. If you are dumb enough to be caught by cops, they will just confiscate it and call your parents.
But if you're driving high or have weight on you, that's a different story.

You need to deactivate it, I would throw a fit if my parents were tracking me. That is such a lack of trust and disrespectful to yourself as a person.
Might be time to get your own cellphone, bud. Best thing I ever did.

Don't tell people how exactly to smoke marijuana, or how they should go about doing it. If I see that again this will be locked.

•Check it first off, make sure it's not laced with anything.
•Make sure you're not by yourself.
•Don't smoke more than you think you can handle
When I smoked my first time, I didn't feel the effects really, but I slept for around 10+ hours after smoking.
If you don't feel safe or like risking it when the moment comes, by all means, don't, if you're with friends or something, they might call you names or make fun of you, but it's better for you in the long run.
