It appears that for the second year in the row, my dad has completely ignored my list of what I want for Christmas. I think he just got a dartboard with random ideas, put on a blindfold, and whatever he hit, he got. I mean only one thing on my list did he actually got. I compared the list of what I asked for, to the list he accidentally left with me of what he was planning to get, and now I see what he actually got. All three lists are very different. I mean, I'm glad he got me stuff, but I only asked for one of the things he got me. He just completely ignored what I wanted. Does this every time. Meh, sorry for being a greedy bastard.
I mean, after seeing the time he spent shopping, he really put it off to the last minute and you can really tell.

Meh, sorry Matt but stop being materialistic. Why does 'christmas' have to mean 'getting stuff you want'? Why does it mean having to get stuff at all?
Bah humbug and all that, but it's another day of the year. Another mark in the time-space dimensions that we're all slowly passing through in one way or another. Getting a list of 'stuff' you wanted doesn't really change much. It just means you have more 'stuff'.
You've got all of us lovely people here on VT though, surely that's enough for anybody? :P

I'm sorry but this made me laugh. At least he made an effort and bought you something. My great grandma got my uncle a bag of ancient looking marbles and a rock for Christmas so if I were you I'd be thankful

I do know what he means and feels, is not so much about getting what you really want but rather the intentions behind a gift, right? Like, it feels they couldn't care less about it and only got you something because they felt like they had to, not because they really wanted to.

↑ these two views really.
At first I thought "hmm, materialistic...?" but then I realised it's his dad and he couldn't even be bothered. Not meaning to speak for you Matt but that's got to sort of hurt inside?
Therefore, he's not so much upset because of what he didn't get, but more about the fact that his father was selfish and disrespectful to his wishes.
Correct me if I'm wrong though Matt.

My problem is not that I didn't get what I wanted, but the fact that my dad completely ignored what I wanted. I would've been fine if I didn't get anything. It's the fact that the gifts obviously didn't have too much meaning. I would've preffered that money going to charity.
The rest of you have it right.

yeah, that's how Christmas has been for me for as long as I can remember... this year for example, I would've preferred not to get anything... my parents gave me something that was mine anyway.
And then gave the "understand there's no money for presents" bs... yeah sure, they just wasted $3.000 on gifts for themselves and $50 on my brother's present, but there was totally no money to get me a gift, not even $10 for the game I wanted from a local store. Again, not so much about the money, but more like they didn't want to spend a dime on me, yet have something under the tree with my name so my grandparents and aunts wouldn't look weird at them or something.
