I don't know who's worse, the terrorists or the dad.

BAGHDAD – When police came hunting for a 19-year-old woman they believed had been recruited by al-Qaida to be a suicide bomber in a town north of Baghdad, they found she was already dead: Slain by her father, who told police he strangled his daughter out of shame and then cut her throat.

The killing of Shahlaa al-Anbaky, reported by police Friday, appeared to be from an unusual melding of motives — part to defend the family honor, part to prevent her from joining the militants. But how much of each weighed in her father's mind remains unclear, with police still investigating the details.

Al-Qaida has been recruiting women for suicide attacks because they can pass police checkpoints more easily than men by concealing explosives under an abaya, a loose, black cloak that conservative Muslim women wear. Suicide bombers have been al-Qaida's most lethal weapon in Iraq, killing hundreds of civilians and members of Iraq's security forces.

I do.

I think the cases of honor killings in the US are terrible and dont belong in the culture of a western country. However honor killings in muslim countries completely blow my mind. I dont even know how I feel about this.

The only thing I can really think is that had the father not killed her, she would have died anyways and might have took the lives of others....

I'm going to agree with this. While I think the entire practice of 'honor killing' is atrocious, there is some silver lining in that only one person is dead now instead of many.

I agree that it is a horrible, terrible thing. Its situations like these where there really is no clear cut right or wrong answer. And then religion gets into the whole mix and makes everything screwier...

It's honor killing. It happens a lot in the middle east. If a son or daughter dishonors the family a family member kills them. It happens a lot more to daughters though. It might even happen in a rape case if they don't believe she really resisted. It is common in Arab cultures to believe women "want it" and will tempt men. It's part of why they are kept covered and can get stoned if they slip up. It's why the Taliban forced families with daughters to paint all windows black. Ladies, be glad you weren't born into that!
