For those wondering about the title, It is a link one of my favourite movies 'V for Vendetta'. For those who havn't seen it, The main concept is that the government has total control over every aspect of our lives. They can see and hear everywhere and they rule through fear, silencing those who speak out against them. I won't say no more incase you do decide to watch it which I strongly recommend you do.
My little question here is, Do you think the government will ever become like this and if so how long until it does?
If not, then what do you think the future of the UK government is?

I <3 V for Vendetta too. I just made a thread about the UK government in it's current state, and how it's a failure.

This movie was great! A dystopian Dictatorship of British government, it's been done many times in other novels, this one just happens to add in V the present day Guy Fawkes who try's to blow up parliament.
It will be very unlikely that this happens as again it is a fictional novel. There are however conspiracy theorist of the New World Order "Keep them contained, keep them ignorant, keep them inside the bubble" type stuff worldwide dystopian future. Broadening your view to the British Government, it is unlikely in your lifetime that world values will drastically change from the ways of traditional democracy to all these dystopian values.
And to the above poster: you continue to say that British government has failed due to your analysis in your thread stating: They wear uniforms and are trying to block porn therefore they are a terrible failing government.

You think the previous Labour Government was more successful? Actually having read some of your other posts, I have realised that its not the gov'ts policies you dislike, you are simply a racist. My apologies.

The Coalition gov't will last most, if not all, of the 5 year parliament. After that we will have a Conservative Government which will take reasonably positions on tax, Europe and Human Rights

I do not believe the world is leaning towards totalitarianism. That was a real threat during World War II when the Axis powers tried to dominate the world, but in today's times where a majority of the world's nations are democracies or leaning-democratic I don't see it being a threat to anyone.

Sorry if I'm venturing off topic by mentioning the American government, but V has become a symbol here for those in favor of completely free speech. I feel like with the rise in popularity of Wikileaks a lot of people are making the argument that the government is hiding a lot of things from us simply because they don't want us to know.
I think it's a really tricky subject since the government is supposed to keep us safe AND informed. I personally feel that people take free speech for granted and have way too much trust in the government.

The Government does and always will have it's secrets, it's only because wiki leaks has brought these previously well kept secrets to the the media spotlight that suddenly everyone is kicking up a fuss about them again. It's not like this is the first time the government has lied or kept a secret before.
