A bunch of jack wad dumb fucks predict that the world, as we know it, will come to an end.
Do you believe it?
If not, what do you think will happen? Will it just be another normal day?
Discuss.
I for one think It's a load of shit. They also thought the world would end in 1998, 2000, 2004, 6/6/6, and guess what. I'm still fucking here.
I think this whole thing is a sham for corporations to sell as many "end-of-the-world" survival products, I.E - Canned goods, gasoline, flashlights, bottled water. It's nothing but a big money making gimmick. It's all a load of shit.

I think that it won't end personally. Why? Because, were the Mayans supposed to map out EVERY day for human existence? No. They easily just could have stopped, the person in charge may have passed away, who knows.

This is complete bullshit. Otherwise, corporations would be advertising it. The end of the world is portrayed by the media as an apocalyptic event. Unavoidable. Nothing will save you, especially not canned goods, gasoline, flashlights, or bottled water.

The Mayan calendar is supposed to reset on December 12, 2012, not end. Even if the calendar ended it might have been misinterpreted as the end of the world.

It wont happen. The end could happen any time, we cant predict it. It's just the same creepy people who said the world would end in 1998, 2000, 2006. There's one guy, who apparently predicted Hitler and a bunch of other stuff, I cant remember his name. but he also predicted a nuclear war in 1996, and that never happened. Point being, I think he's predicting every possible disaster and people don't pay attention to the stuff that never happened.
I'm still dreading it though, the night before it's supposed to happen I'll be a nervous wreck.

I still don't completely understand why people are freaking out.
It's been made apparent that the Mayan calendar is based around astronomical events that will repeat themselves when the calendar starts over. Our current calendar ends and starts over too... You don't see people freaking out on December 31

There's sooo many theories about what will happen and thats kinda creepy... but c'mon, no one, absolutely no one can predict it.
I googled 'reasons why apocalypse 2012 is fake' just for the laugh and it said that scientists are saying that there are two things they think may happen, if anything.
One of them is the flares and radiation from the sun will intensify for a while, but that happens every few years.
The other is that the earth will line up with the centre of the galaxy, which basically only happens every million or so years, haha. But nothing will happen, even if we do line up :L
Just shows how people can blow things out of proportion

The reason is that no one can know when it will end except God. I know that the rapture has not happened, since I'm still here. After that Christ will reign for a thousand years and than Armageddon. After that happens the world will end. So until the saints are taken home, you can't even think of the end of the world.

End of times means END OF TIMES, this means no living thing will be left on this planet. Is this such a hard concept to grasp? I think not.
PS why did people say the world would end in 1998 and 2004?
Well, it wasn't 1998, it was 1999. Y2K and all the buzz that technology would just stop working. Years of preparing went into preventing it from happening. I'm not sure about 2004 as I don't remember any type of freaking out or nut jobs being street corner preachers.
To be honest, I can't quite remember, but I could look it up, then again i don't feel like it.
Really? You really thought you could come into Ramblings of the Wise, receive a reply to your thread, and not even bother to look up on information? This is why we can't have things, exactly why. Jesus, what do they teach you kids in public schools? Mythology is an ancient study on the beliefs of society. Sort of like religious studies. Greek mythology centers around the Greeks, Aztec mythology centers around the Aztecs, etc.. It's not a who it's a what.

The Mayans were no idiots. By all accounts, their civilization matches to the Greeks and Romans. Without them, do you realize that astronomy wouldn't be as advanced as it is today? Without the Mayans, mapping the stars would be damn near impossible. Call them idiots all you want, say nothing bad will happen. Until 2012, we won't know what will happen. Everything said so far is just a shot in the dark.

Bitchplz.
Let's set this straight. In the mayan cosmology, there are two forms of calendar. The calendar round, and the long count. The calender round, called the haab, was used as a 365 day long means of tracking time for domestic and mundane purposes. The second form, called a long count, was use to keep track of cosmological events.
In long count, 1 solar day is a k'in.
20 k'in make 1 winal. ktch'Winal (plural) were ceremonial days among the clergy.
18 winal constitute a tun ktch'tun were a widely observed event among the mayan empire. A ktch'tun is made up of approximately 360 days.
20 of those made a K'atun. And finally, 20 K'atun make B'ak'tun.
The B'ak'tun, at a length of 144000 solar days was an enormous festival lasting for days, as with every B'ak'tun a new god (piktun, kalabtun, k'inchiltun, or alautun) takes ownership and command of the universe. 12/12/12 marks the start of the 14th B'ak'tun. Not the end of the world, even according to the mayans.

It won't happen. Sure, its a novel idea that the world will suddenly end in an apocalyptic fashion, but that doesnt happen anywhere but in Hollywood. However, it would be HILARIOUS if some tv or radio station did like CBS did with "War of the Worlds", and broadcasted a sham apocalypse. Or if a bunch of networks worked together to achieve the same goal, causing a general panic and then the rest of us would laugh our azzes off at the idiots who believed it :D

2 words. Bull. Shit. Just because the Mayans' (I think it was the Mayans at least) calender ended on 12/12/12 why should that mean the world will end? We'll see a ton of people stock up on bread and milk and probably a huge wave of violence, and then it will be 12/13/12. Nothing will happen.

The world isn't going to end. A loop hole about the 2012 thing is the end is supposed to begin at 11:11 or something. But, with time zones, when it's 11:11 in one place, it's some other time somewhere else. So, how can it work? The point is, it can't work and it's never going to happen.
