There's a difference between the love. She loves you as a person and as a friend, and you love her in the technical tense.

I love my best friends like brothers. She probably loves you like a brother.

What Jake said. There's can be a HUGE difference between "I love you", depending on the relationship. There are some friends that I love, that I tell I love, that I don't want to date. She obviously doesn't want to ruin what you two have going for you, which you'll benefit more from. I dated my best friend once, and now, we barely talk because of it. Best friends should just stay friends 99.9% of the time.

Maybe she actually loves you, but she really doesn't want to ruin the 5 year friendship, because she knows that something could go wrong in the relationship. I say.. just respect her decision, and if she wants to be just your friend, accept it. There are a lot of girls out there that you can meet :) maybe you'll find someone better out there...
Good luck!

I understand your situation. It happens to me also and the situation still the same. We remain friends until now.
