Friends Requests

I'm new here and have had a few friends requests - thats cool - but are you expected just to accept all requests, like would people you dont accept be offended? Especially if you rejected the request? I feel bad about ignoring them. Ive accepted one, but the others are a lot older than me and I dont hang out with older guys in my personal life, so Im not sure I'd have much in common. Being new I dont want to cause any probs so can you tell me the best way to handle this? Thx.

it doesnt really make much difference
it just means they show up under the friends block on your profile
and if you have any friends only pictures on your profile theyd be able to see them
i dont usually accept people i havnt spoken to/spoken once to
your choice

It's your choice. I've had a lot of friend requests and I've rejected a lot of them, and when I accept them I usually talk to the person and get to know them if they look interesting enough. But I'm usually just friends with people I talk to regularly or i'm really good friends with.

I just accept all of them. Doesn't matter who it's from and how often I talk to them.

It doesnt mean that much, it just makes it easier to keep in touch. I always feel flattered to receive a friend request, but if its from someone I dont know and havent noticed around I look up their posts to try to judge if its someone I dont mind being associated with. If I dont accept the request I generally send a pm saying thanks for the request and saying that it doesnt mean I'm unfriendly and that I am still here to help if there is anything they want to ask or talk to me about.

Yeah it's pretty pointless.

So pointless I have a related question. I do not want any "friends". Is there a way for me to disable that system? We can disable PMs and VMs and showing Reputation level, why not friends requests?
