Well, a good way that always works is to resize the file to a lower resolution, and re-encode it using a better compression algorithm.

A good tool to do this is avidemux (http://avidemux.org/). It is free, and it allows you to cut your video file, change its size, format, etc. quite easily.

I also suggest to install as many codecs as possible, so you can have access to a wide choice of video formats. A good package to install for Windows is the K-Lite Codec Pack. (http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm).

Try reencoding your video as XVid with MP3 audio, with a resolution of 640x480 (VGA) or 720x576 (PAL TV), depending on your needs. You'll probably make a few tests to see what suits you best.
Hope this helps!

Fraps records AVI files

AVI files tend to be quite large when created by fraps as they also record FPS and tessalation information

theres nothing much you can do other than re encode the finished video then delete the AVI file
