i would like to debate about video games and the affect on the psychy.
do you think that is good or bad, or do you think that everygame has things to add that are good and bad.?

I don't think video games have a major effect on people's psychological makeup. They can teach reflex/motor skills, critical thinking and strategy, which are valuable skills. However, overall, I don't believe they do much either negatively or positively unless the person playing is already mentally compromised somehow.

I started playing multiplayer with CoD:MW2 and well...
It does improve your reflexes and I am now able to see small details from far away.
But since I have met the cold agony of multiplayer, I get pissed off quite easily.

Well, it really doesnt effect our psyche very much. It does help develop certain skills such as reflex, fine motor, and strategical thought. It has been shown that antisocial people tend to play violent video games. The reverse of that statment is not true however. Also, video games help with spatial skills as well as coordination skills and multitasking capabilities.

Video games are not negative, unless you're getting dominated, then that's another story for another Saturday. But, video games relax. I do not want to go on a killing spree with an M1 Garand when I play BC2, or murder bitches like I do in GTAIV. All this stuff about video games affect you negatively is such bullshit. I know no one who wants to kill people from playing video games.

Studies have shown that it's not murder and violence that gets people feeling active in videogames, but rather, a sense of competition. Whether you're shooting it out in the middle east in a videogame or racing go-karts, you will feel a sense of competitiveness.

I think Video games makes your more stupid and inert.
Videogames, doesn't make your motor skills better. I believe playing a sport gives you that skills. Unless you are playing those wii games.
Videogames, does not develop your critical thinking and strategical skills. I believe solving mathematical and logical problems will develop that skills. And, I think games like chess will help your strategy skills.
Videogames fails to do anything positive at all.
I bet you have heard that "Oh no, playing video-games doesn't make you introverted and anti-social; that's a myth. You are playing with friends and stuff" Bullshit! it makes you more anti-social and introverted.
If you are a serious gaming nerd, then play table-top games and LARPS, they will develop your social skills, because you are interacting live and in touch with the people more, than when you are playing in front of the monitor, talking to your party via a mic.
Videogames have been radically changed from what it used to be 6 year ago. It was an attempt to change the way we play our games, and makes us more 'smarter', 'attentive' and 'social', however, all have failed.
I think a few groups have sustained a close binding friendship from playing videogames together. But I am talking on the whole-world scale.
SCII Koreans play SCII, because it is their source of living.

But aren't sports just as competitive? Watch anyone in the South watch football. You'll see competitiveness.

Sure, video games don't help develop those skills as much as the activities you listed, but they still help. (see here (http://www.science20.com/news_articles/stroke_patients_could_improve_motor_skills_video_games) and here (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4685909/ns/technology_and_science-games/))
Also, it's well established that video games help with critical thinking (http://www.webmd.com/brain/news/20080818/video-games-may-help-critical-thinking) and strategic thinking (http://www.education.com/magazine/article/Ed_Scientists_Say_Need/).

This is partially true, however, there are many people who make more friends through video games than without them.

What about people who host video game parties at their houses, or invite friends over to play video games? Games like Rock Band are definitely oriented towards social people.

No, video games were developed because there's a lot of economic opportunity in there. They weren't made to fulfill some prophetic view of the future.

I think video games are an easy scapegoat, just like comics in the 50s. I think some of these people saying that the reason kids murder other kids are neglecting all the people video games have no effect on. Almost every kid has at one time or another played a video game. So there is a miniscule ratio of gamers that murder, and those who don't. And I think that if a kid plows down his classmates, he have a few more problems than video games. There are those out there who have the right mix of depression and sociopathy to kill. And being bullied contributes much more. Where are the bans and court cases on that? Oh, that;s a, "Normal part of childhood." Most people enter gaming with problems already, if they have problems later. And gaming can lead to obsessions. but can't anything. I could have an obsession with eating pies. Should we restrict pies? You can simulate violence in games, but if anything, this is good. YOu can get your violent actions out virtually. And if I want knowledge on how to kill someone, I could probably go to my public library.

I already knew that. No, seriously, I did. In this post (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1021564&postcount=15), I have said that playing other types o' games will make your more smarter and faster to respond and quick to solve problems.
This is partially true, however, there are many people who make more friends through video games than without them.

Yes, there are gaming communities, where people actually meet and make more friends, since they all share the same passion, Gaming.
I believe videogame consoles like N64, and with its 4 game pad slots and its ample party games were intended to bring people together. Family, a bunch of school friends and etc.

As I have said. It's not a permanent and a wide scale case. Few actually do that out of the masses.
No, video games were developed because there's a lot of economic opportunity in there. They weren't made to fulfill some prophetic view of the future.
An 8k game cartridge price hasn't changed from its Ultravideo disc peer. But yes, as you have said, by making videogames and consoles aimed at different groups, this way they have widened their... what you call it... tsk :whoops:
