So I'm on vacation in Mexico right now, and every time I go swimming in the ocean, I immediately get a small rash on my upper right thigh, near my groin. It's confined to one area and is very painful. As soon as I dry off It goes away. Any idea what this might be? It kinda ruins my whole vacation. This happens every year, in the same spot.

This could very well be chafing as when the sand and water mix and they rub against the skin it could cause the irritation causing the rash. Whenever you take a shower next, try using baby powder to dry it out and air it out, that way it goes away.

Depending on your skin type, you could be really sensitive to salt water in general which will irritate the skin. Your bathing suit liner is probably a little snug in that spot so sand and salt water get stuck there giving you the rash. Just try and use one of faucet/shower things most beach side resorts have at the beach entrance after you get out of the water and it should be a lot less painful. Try jumping in a fresh water pool afterward or just simply going to your hotel room and showering right after and be careful not to rub the area much. Baby Powder, Baby Oil, Vaseline or Aquaphor work great.

You should try putting some lotion before and after you get into the ocean

This happens to me. The salt water, sand, and swimming trunks rub together and irritate your skin.

I agree. All of these just irritate your skin. We have a house in Mexico, and about the same stuff happens to me.
