View Full Version : How Old Is Too Old?

Hello Admins,
I'm new here, and was wondering how old a post has to be before one should stop commenting on it? Just recently posted on one with the post before me being November 4th (I admit, I didn't check the date before posting) and got the post locked. =-/
Also, why do posts get locked after a while? Does it have something to do with Memory?

In p101, it is 1 month, in the section "questions for both boys and girls" however is 6 months. Any other forum, can range from 1 months onward, and usually depends on the discretion of the moderator in that forum.

That seems kind of inconsistent. Is that just for polls and surveys, as before, because other threads in there are really no different in character from threads in the boys or girls section so it makes no sense to me for a different bump policy to apply.

I have been wondering the same thing. As a rule of thumb I don't post in a thread if the last post is older than 2 weeks. Usually not even then.

you are also allowed to bump your own thread

I'll lock a thread in the Psych Ward if the last post is over a month ago, personally. But as Jess said, no matter how long ago your own thread was created, you can bump it whenever.

I thought I heard one of the other mods/ g-mods/ admins (can't remember which) say it was 6 weeks for the psych ward.
Any chance we can get Ant to give an official list per forum?

I really don't like the idea of setting a bunch of exact numbers for although I can understand how it would make things easier. I think personally its becoming too strict and if a thread can still be relevant it can be bumped.

Well, it does really depend in the psych. I'm not the only one who does over a month either. If it's still open and very few have responded while not being too old, I think it's fine. However, people bumping it after the OP has already solved the question or just reciting what others have said while the thread is old, I'll lock it. There isn't a set number at all really, it's what we think is appropriate for that forum in particular or the thread in question. But in general, I don't post in any basic thread if the last post is over a month.

I like this point. I have to point out VT is a bit of an oddball with bumps. Most other forums I've seen. Other sites usually would rather a 5 year bump than to create a new thread.

I don't really care one way or the other, just pointing out that it's not clear.

I thought the rule was 2 weeks in the puberty forums and a month for all other forums.

2 weeks is not correct, it's rather 2 months is the accurate answer that I have known. Also in an agreement with Anthony that if a thread is still getting relevant and contributing replies then it may remain open but +1 replies, and many other thread with the same answer, but is over 2 months without a reply, it's locked.
