...Abercrombie and Hollister?

Seriously, what exactly IS the deal with 'em both?
Everyone's been obsessed with them for a while now, but to me they're just ordinary, plain and boring clothes with a well known brand name printed on them.

So many people wear them, and are all "Omfg let's go to the Hollister store, it's like so FUCKING amazing" and it's really not? :/

Am I missing out on something here?

The Madness.

Just because most people do it, so then EVERYONE feels like it's such a great store because everyone shops there. All it has is one tee-shirt with the name brand printed all over the shirt. No one dares to be different or have their own style, just follows the crowd. All the 'cool' people wear it. It's not even cute clothes, just a repetitive style with the name brand and all that. It urks me. :P

That's exactly what I think every time I see some teenager acting as a walking billboard advertising those places. I can bear the shirts they have with just the little moose logo more, but when they're wearing just a shirt with the brand name on it.. what were you thinking when you bought that? You could get the same exact shirt without the logo on it for at least 50% cheaper I'll bet.

Acceptance from peers I presume. I'm guessing the skanky styles, and the obnoxious logos, make some kids go bonkers. The high prices and everything!! Oh my gosh, how can one resist! I love how the kids I see go in all look exactly the same too. Same hair cut, same jeans, same hair color. They are like clones!!! DX It kind of creeps me out!

tbh, im guilty of buying things like this lol but not very often, id rather buy it from a less know shop ut love it than buy it just for the brand. I buy all my stuff online anyway lol :P

They arnt that expensive either, but i guess thats just the rich kid in me lol

I agree. I hate all of the popular teen stores, and I wouldn't wear them. And seriously, what is with Hollister? It's so dark in there I bet you can't even see what you're buying. :P

Why can't everyone be simple like me and just buy clothes because I need clothes to wear? Clothes shopping is an absurdly boring experience. Who gives a flying fuck if your clothes are from some trendy corporation-name-brand, mass-produced, overpriced store that erects (no pun) pictures of shirtless men so all the constantly orgasming Justin Bieber fangirls and douchebag guys will go in and buy more and more of their pointless items so they can "fit in" to their "social group" at high school?

Why can't people just buy their shirts and jeans from Target for $20 and call it a day?

Also, my issue isn't neccesarily people who wear their shirts with a little fucking bird on the chest or whatever, but it's people who are douchebags and decide to continue the stereotype connected to the stores. I mean, it goes both ways. Why do you care if someone has a logo on their chest? As you said, it's just clothing.

I just like to laugh at everyone because I buy my shirts for $3.00-$4.00, still look fine, and come out with much more money than people my age.

What is the deal with ANY brands? I honestly have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to have a brand name on their shirts, it makes me feel like a walking advertisement.

Here in Belgium people go get them especially in USA, ... or they get them shipped :)cause they're not available here :P If you wear them here you're kinda cool xD
I don't buy them though, for the same price I can get better brands.

It's all about style. I wear American Eagle every fucking day because I like the shirts. They're comfortable, and I like the designs.

I have a question. A lot of you people are like, "Hurr, judging is bad, hurr." And then here you are judging people for what kind of clothes they wear. It's just fucking clothes. Who cares? Why does it matter what someone else wears? You prefer what you wear, and they prefer what they wear. Granted, I snicker inside at people who wear polo t-shirts and shit. It's so tacky.

I don't mind if people wear shirts because they genuinely like them. Clothes are clothes, I couldn't care less.

However, I do care that our society has stooped to such low a level that we use other peoples' "sense of fashion" as a replacement for their personality. It baffles me that, in some places, you need to buy corporation name-brand shirts so you can fit in with that elitist group that also wears corporation name-brand shirts. Thus is the result of capitalism, a mixed bag of social consequences.

I walked in there once. Went to look at some jeans and right in front of me was this gigantic poster of a buff man shirtless and sweating while holding a surfboard. That's when I said, "Fuck this shit."

I mean, I'm bisexual, but that store is surely flaming the fuck up. That place was on fire.

Ugh, I hate both stores. Everybody wears them, I don't see why. It's a fucking bird, and a date stitched in big, bold, colorful letters all over the shirt that you don't even know what it is. And half the time it just says "Aero" just, "Aero." Silly children, you cannot fly.

I just go to Old Navy, there's no preppyness there. Oh, and there's sales all the time. :)
But honestly, Hollister is this big dark room.
And Abercrombie...is the same with a half naked man pasted on the front door.

i like going to Abercrombie. I mean its where i go if i want something nice and plain... and i buy my skinny jeans and cologne from there because it smells great. I mean i dont obsess over it, even thought it is one of my fav stores, but i wear like Guess, Ed Hardy, Affliction, ect. Im just saying not everyone who shops there is plain and boring and easily labeled. I buy stuff that no one else would from those stores like their awesome graphic tees that somewhat have inappropriate stuff on it. or a nice sweater!

Even though I have the money to spend on these kinds of brands, and I have expensive taste :P. I dont see the point in spending $80 for a shirt, it seriously is a waste of money. I can get the same shirt, minus the stupid logo for at least 50% less than the price, if not more like 80%, in any of those stores, I guarantee you.

Being poor as hell living off of only my salary, you learn to do some intense thrift store searching. There's actually good stuff there if you dig for it, the rest you can make into something good if you have simple knowledge of sewing. And even if you want Ambercrombie clothes, you can get the same stuff in perfect quality at a thrift store for half the price :P

Even if I had the money, I would never overspend. And those prep stores aren't even worth a normal price with the stupid logos. I like funny or meaningful tees if they're going to have stuff like that on them, and if not then I like them fully plain.

I'll shop just about anywhere. If I see something that's cute, regardless of the store or what brand it is, I'll buy it. It doesn't matter to me. But it's not just Hollister, Abercrombie, etc who sell the shirts with their name printed all over them. Plenty of other stores are like that too. PacSun, for example. I still shop at these stores sometimes, but I go for the more original pieces, like tops with designs on them, jeans and/or dresses, not the t-shirts that just scream "HOLLISTER" at you. I'm more than happy to shop at Target though, if everything I see in the other stores is too expensive. I absolutely love Target. :P

The cool thing is this is EXACTLY how the Hollister/Abercrombie wearing world views your stereo-typical hipster/emo kid. They all look exactly the same to everyone else but themselves.

As with 'preppy' style, one who doesn't actively dress in it cannot be expected to know the differences of brands. No one who's actually worth their salt really wears any of the three A's anymore; Abercrombie, American Eagle, and Aeropostale. That's mostly dumb, lower tier high school children. The same kids who act like their North Faces are made of gold and their Sperrys don't stink. At my school, we wear such brands entirely sparingly. I actually don't shop at any of the A's at all anymore, and only shop Hollister for their button downs and because their printed skirts are definitely the cutest around. More often then not you'll catch me in Polo, Lacoste, Lilly Pulitzer, that sort of thing.

I mean, if you're going to be branded, at least wear something nice.

You see, if you've gone to an abercrombie store, it's quite different from the usual boutique setup. It's really dark, and it almost looks like you're going to a cave. Then the scent comes in. It smells weird in that place. Now all of that stuff comes into play into brain-washing teenagers with raging hormones. I'm sarcastic btw. It's jsut all the hype about it. People think they're cool. I went in Hollister the other day and I picked up a few shirts (that were supposed to be fitted) that I thought were nice - HOW IRONIC. They were all a size small and they all were so poorly fitted. They fit nicely around the arms and chest but around my waist it was all loose material that stuck out...it just looked so cheap and tacky. I couldn't get a size extra small either because I'm not disgustingly skinny.

So for something so expensive, their clothes could at least be of a good quality fit. I mean their designs already suck in terms of aesthetics as it is...

I have a couple abercrombie shirts. But most of my stuff is Perry Ellis, Calvin Klein, or simple button downs from polo. I find it that the more simple, and calm looking, the more attractive it is. Not only that, but they usually have stuff I'm very comfortable in. And that's what matters.

I typically try to not judge people. I mean, my friend Monty wears hollister, and I love the guy to death. His dad worked with mine, an he's really intellegent, so there is more to some people than just clothing. I wear the clothes I wear because they make me feel attractive, and feel good about my self. If that's how people feel about their clothes, so be it. But to go around and rub the prices of things in peoples faces. That's not cool. And I see that a lot.

Nobody is "picking sides". I was just wondering what the fuss is about a certain brand of clothing that looks like a regular piece of clothing. For example, loads of people want a plain green t-shirt from Abercrombie & Fitch, but not an identical plain green t-shirt from an ordinary clothes store.

It's also the same for the Hot Topic morons who will only buy a pair of black skinny jeans or a studded belt from a Hot Topic store but not the exact same pair of jeans and belt from a regular store.

Those emos and preps, or whatever you 13 year olds call them, are nothing more than posers.

I'm guilty of shopping at Hollister and American Eagle, a lot. I admit, it started from being around other people who bought things from there and being "cool", but I've come to love their stuff. American Eagle has really cute shirts and hoodies, good fitting jeans, and nice dresses. Plus, they last a good while! Hollister is where I get most of my shorts from. They are VERY comfortable. I also get jeans and tees from there. The thing is, I rarely EVER pay full price for any of it. Sure I'll pay the $50 for a pair of jeans if I REALLY want them, but normally I'll shop online or wait til there is a really good sale. I just recently bought 2 pairs of shorts from Hollister that were both originally $40 each and were on sale for $14.60 each. Of course shipping isn't cheap, but it's a LOT less than it would have been full price.
Each person has a different style, that's all. You may not like the clothes, but others do.

I went into Abercrombie & Fitch once, when I went to this shopping center to just get beach stuff for the summer. It's pretty daunting as a straight guy to see a guy with a six pack taking up an entire wall. They are a bit expensive, but I did buy a pair of sandals they had and I have to admit they are most comfortable ones I've ever worn. I've have friends who shop there often and that's how I heard about them. Their prices are a bit steep and you could probably find a better deal other places but they're pretty good quality in my opinion. I just will be going there rarely.

So basicaly you're saying that people shop at these stores is because all they know how to do is suck dick, and spend their parent's money? You know, that sounds just about right. Some of there stuff I like but not all of it. But I have never bought anything from there as I can't wear any of the stuff I like form there, I'm too tall(6'5")

In middle school, hollister was THE place to be. Everyone lived by it. If you wore it, you were in. If not, (unless you were some special case) you were out. Me, personally, I shop around. I'm a big thrift shop girl, a lot of my clothes are vintage or just plain used. But, no thrifted jeans have ever fit me right. I tried all the stores. H&M, Abercrombie, American Eagle, everywhere in the mall. And yes, hollister. And those were the ones that fit. I'm super tall and pretty skinny so its not always easy to find something thats both in my town. Sure, I'm no fan of the prices or the advertising (and also they stick the hollister symbol everywhere they can think of in those jeans) but ultimately I have nothing against the store. Not everything is my style but I don't like the idea of hating a place just because it's cool and you feel obligated to. That's just my view.

I see nothing wrong with AE, but Hollister is just so fake like. The store in my mall, they had two BUFF ASS looking dudes in TIGHT ASS shirts. At first I thought they were cardboard, then I seen their heads moved and I was scared away from that store since then. And Abercrombie....meh, it reminds me of the people I don't like. Most of the people I don't like wear their clothing. Also, I'm not a fan of our new pop loving society and Abercrombie has "pop" written all over their clothing.

Abercrombie doesn't even have stores in my area! I have to drive 4 hours to Washington state to visit the store. Never been in there, but I wouldn't buy the overpriced clothes anyways. So I guess if you live in west coast Canada, wearing Abercrombie makes you kinda special.
