MATT Cardle has been crowned winner of The X Factor.
The Essex painter, 27, was the bookies favourite going into tonight's final.

He beat off stiff competition from Rebecca Ferguson, 24, to win the top spot.

Simon Cowell's boyband One Direction were knocked out in third place.

Winner Matt - whose single When We Collide was released at midnight - was in tears.

He said: "I just want to say thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I am so happy."

Simon said: "I have got to hand it to Matt, you are one heck of a nice guy. I want to thank all the public who have supported the show."

Runner up Rebecca said: "I am so happy and grateful. Matt is amazing. I am just happy to have got this far."

Matt's mum Jenny said: "We are just so proud of you. We knew you could do it. We never doubted you."

Matt's mentor Dannii also praised him.

She said: "He's just so easy to work with. He's so down to earth, there's no drama in him at all. He's just a cool guy. Likeable, normal, and I don't think he'll ever change. He hasn't changed since he started the competition til now, and for me that says a lot. I like people to stay grounded.

"You need an inner confidence about yourself as a person to do well, and he has that. What we've had to work on with Matt is confidence in his performances."

X factor ruins the music industry, I was in full support of the Rage against the machine rebellion last year and i've seen it trying to be recreated this year, but tbh it was a once in a life time thing.

How can it possibly ruin the music industry? Last year's campaign was just mean-spirited spoiling. Why deny the winner their success. People only buy their single or albumn if they want to.

The show was fixed or incredibly coincedental.

For example. THey never had a sing off, yet they had one to get mar yoff.

And again, look at the PHONE NUMBERS for the final.

Matt - 01
Rebecca - 02
One Direction - 03
Cher - 04

Thats the places they came in

Surely performing last is more of an advantage as more people will remember you. Anyone who thinks the X Factor is fixed is paranoid

I sort of agree with this, there have been times where I've doubted choices that were made by the judges are genuinely their own thoughts.

I don't think that the winner of X-Factor should be denied their place in the UK charts though. If people want to buy the winner's album, then they will, and as the public voted the person to win, majority of people who watched X-Factor to the end and voted will therefore buy the album.

That's the theory, whether that actually happens or not, who knows? The Rage Against The Machine rebellion last year suggests that what happens regarding the charts and shows such as X-Factor IS genuine, so I come down on the side of the fence, with my foot still leaning on the last plank of wood, because I just have to doubt everything.

Yeah, bottom line though, I like Matt :P :D
