I'm setting my goal in life to join the Navy and get into the Naval Academy. Getting into the Naval Academy is not a for sure thing. I have to go through a long application process designed to weed out anybody who does not have the patience and will power to wait for results. Over 12,000 people apply and only around 1,200 people get into the academy for that class that year. If that does not work out then I will apply for an NROTC scholarship for a university around where I live (Notre Dame, University of Michigan, Iowa State University), which is also hard to get accepted for. If all else fails I will enlist as an E4, and go through a process that basically sends me to a special Navy taught college classes, which lasts up to about 6 months before I am promoted and then 6 more months of classes. I can reapply for the NROTC Scholarship and the Naval Academy after those six month, and i get promoted again..blah blah blah, and eventually I can get into the Naval Academy that way.
What do you all think? Do you think I have a good path on life? Anybody have some suggestions? Anybody have some pros and cons for me to weigh to help me if this decision is a good one?
