So, I got the idea to suggest a legal debate section of the forum and so I searched "lega" in the suggestions forum to see if it had been suggested before, I found the suggestion of a Mock trial which I actually like more. I take criminal justice and am currently in my third year. We have had Mock Trials before so I know how they work. I think it is a great idea for people who are interested in the law as well as people looking for something to debate. I would be willing to help out alot, even try to spearhead the idea, but I would need some help from other members. I do get very busy for periods of time in whinch I would be absent from the Forum so I would need some people to take over while I was gone. Of course the person who first had the idea should still have dibs on it so if he wants to start it and be in charge, then I am perfectly fine with that. What are your thoughts on the matter? I am sure we can find cases to use as real cases would be able to be used because they are public record. We could aslo have a team to write cases if anyone is interested. On top of all that, the colleges who hold debate competitions sometimes publish the fictional cases they use and we could use them if we wanted to. First we need to see if there is enough interest to get the idea off the ground. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
--Chris

It failed the last time we tried. And I'm participating in Mock Trial in my school, and I cannot see how it'll work on a forum, to be honest.

So it was actually attempted? Or did it never get past the idea stage?

I dont really see how it would work on a forum. Time zones, keeping it organized, etc.

Well, a list of questions could be posted, the witness could answer, then another line of questioning based on their responses. Then the opposing team would cross examine, and then the first team would re-direct using the same method aforementioned

You could possibly make it into a diary instead of a sub forum? If you get some people volunteering and some effort put into it. I'm sure there would be some success to it.

Make topics in it. Or however you plan on doing this. Don't start with just one, brainstorm and think of a few. People like options/choices and difference. Keep it active and make it interesting. Only advice I think I could give for a diary such as yours.

Its an interesting idea, not sure how it would work but it sounds worth a go. You're welcome to post in my diary (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=295) if you need somewhere.

It was attempted. It failed, though.

So, I got the idea to suggest a legal debate section of the forum
Considering the debate board here that I used to enjoy has somehow become a steaming pile of dry discussions on every single law ever enacted, I fully support this part of your idea.

Cool lol, I love the law and it would be fun, I think, to debate over the legality of issues and what laws apply, if any, to certain situations. As wee as the constitutionality of laws enacted and the effect they may have on the american citizens. Maybe there could be a subforum of the Debate section or we could start a diary. Thoughts?

I would just love it if we had separate debate boards for moral/philosophical issues and legal ones.

Everything we would be doing would not be related only to america, however, American law is all I know for the most part so we would need people from elsewhere to contribute ideas as well in order to keep it international.
