I need your help guys. Now for christmas, since june, I've had my mind set on a new PS3. But in the past month or so, i've edited my christmas list to get a wii, so its now...
Donkey kong country returns
Chrono trigger DS
Pokemon heartgold Kanto guide and national pokedex
Pokemon soulsilver(I've got gold)
Metroid other M
Super mario galaxy 2
Pokemon ranger guardian signs
Black wii with mario kart and some other shit in the box.
Sonic colours(£5 with the console)
Together that's roughly £315
Now if I went for the PS3, I'd be going for...
PS3 160GB slim
Call of duty black ops
Sly cooper collection
fallout new vegas
Medal of honor(£10 with the console)
So its like more or less the same.
Now I'm extremely conflicted about which to go for. And since we're living in the eire, My mum has to order by thursday i think to make sure it gets here in time. So persuade me which one to go for. And thanks.

The PS3 also plays blu-ray discs. It does some extras too. The Wii can play gamecube games though. I don't have a PS3, but I prefer that sort of game play to the Wii also. I don't use the Wii too often except for Guitar Hero, but that's not the only platform it comes on.

One thing I should mention, I'm a huge nintendo fan, from a few years ago, I just tried out xbox and playstation. I adore pokemon more than anything, i like Metroid, mario, zelda, etc.

Well with that, I guess Wii then :P I really want a blu-ray player though personally, so that would be my choice. But I'm more of a Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, etc. person. I do like LoZ though ^_^

I do like final fantasy, and kingdom hearts and stuff. But I haven't properly done nintendo since 2007, and It seems fun. but if I pass up a PS3, and nintendo stuff isn't as good as I remember

I have a Wii - for me it's like a bag of shit and I never use it. Far prefer the Xbox 360/PS3, but it depends on what you enjoy really. If you like Nintendo definitely go for it, I just prefer the better graphics and more "hardcore" experience.

if youd be able to do online play get a ps3 (even though 360 would be better) if not go for the wii

I've been online with my PS3 before. But beside using the internet browser, I hardly ever played online. Modern warfare, call of duty, and online shooters in general, bore me.

You have to get into them for them really to be fun. But if not, Saints Row/ GTA/ RDR are awesome.

I spent about 30 hours on modern warfare 2, got to the captain rank or whatever its called, and I wish I'd spent the time on my DS to be honest. I disliked GTA 4, or rather hated it. I don't like that kind of game.

Your more or less saying in all your posts that you prefer Nintendo games, in your PS3 package you have said that you'll be purchasing MOH and Black Ops, both very good games that you have expressed dislike and are majorly online games (no one really buys these FPS's anymore soley for the story.) From the sounds of things you prefer much more child like games, Zelda, Pokemon RPG's and what have you so therefore I would sugest the Wii.
This is however only the opinion I get from you as personally I think the Wii is as a previous poster has said "Like a bag of shite I never use" I have always been a Nintendo gamer but since the demise of the Gamecube I have been on Playstation, the best of games can be found on Nintendo IMO Pokemon and Zelda both being personal favourites although I have to say these games on the Wii are extremely lacking in content, not to mention graphics.
I got a Wii in September of this year and was so excited I bought Zelda: Twilight Princess and got extremely bored with it and by the week was out the Wii was back in the corner, reverting to my PS3 which I bought at launch in 23rd March 2007... The Wii is pointless for anyone over 12 or under 60, the games may attract from the classic marvels that they detail but truth be told they are really lacking in my opinion.
I would rather not bring Move into the whole equation but in terms of functionality it is much better than the Wii and PS3 isn't letting it be a gimic it looks like they're going to push it as full games are being created with Move controls (Killzone 3 for example) which is also creating a game which includes all the PS3 exclusive family title characters into a game (Sly, Ratchet & Clank etc)
Oh... The PS3 even though it's just as old as the Wii shall be future proof for at least another 3-5 years can't say that about the Wii though. Also don't buy Soul Silver unless you really have to, wait for Black and White versions in March they have truly changed graphical design rather than keeping it the same, I know that the nostaligia may be hitting you but truly you'll be disapointed, as the other remakes have proved, it's the exact same game only with more colours.

Hardly more childlike. more colourful certainly. And I enjoy shooter single players, just not the multiplayers, as a rule.

Perhaps worded wrongly but you cannot deny these games have the child gamer including the old hearts of classic gamers looking for their personal classics in modern gaming in mind. If you enjoy shooters then Hardcore consoles may also be right for you. Personally even though I have a Wii I wouldn't recognise it as a console I use due to stated disapointments. But instead I would use the PS3 for my main gaming and my DSI to return to Pokemon, Zelda, Golden sun etc. (I would also say that compared to Twilight princess DS Zelda is much better.)

It depends. The Wii is a great console for interactive games such as bowing, dance, etc. While on the other hand the PS3(my pick) is good for first person games such as COD and Medal of Honor

Move has already pondered in this interactive market and I believe if supported to the extents that Sony intends to would render Nintendo's technology obsolete, regardless of their own first party exclusives.

Exactly, even if you love the Nintendo exclusive series' (which I do) you still shouldn't buy a Wii and make do with the DS versions.

Alright, I think I've come to a decision. I'm going to get one of these absurdly cheap pre-owned wii's that seems to be going, and go for..
The aforementioned PS3 thingy
and ...

*Except I replaced fallout with red dead redemption.

You picked the ps3 then? Good move, replacing Fallout 3 with RDR... the worst move you'll ever make. Fallout 3 has at least 100 hours in it to just about do everything, RDR i'd say around 20. Although Fallout 3 is going for like £7 in GAME.

To my understanding you are getting both. That's good, sort of a Win-Win situation.
But I don't think you should get that Mario DSiXL. It may be good for a collectible, but the 3DS will pretty much make your DS obsolete.

Then why not just wait and see what the price tag will be like for the 3DS in March and if it's too high then get a DSI or whatever then since they'll become practically cheap as chips, this is the most logical way to spend IMO.

That might be a viable option for a while, sooner or later the DS will be discontinued as the 3DS is a successor.

But if it's the DS he's wanting and not the 3DS then there will still be a surplus of games gathered from a 5 year business monopoly in their gaming market and since it's been discontinued this brings huge discounts to their prices.
The DS is the most popular handheld ever, I Nintendo is taking a leap back into the big boy markets now that they've received so much profit from their cheap consoles to help then recover from financial loses of the previous gaming era. Therefore the DS will more than likely still remain in production just like the PS2 is now, which previously was the king of their own market.

The DS will be in production for a while for quite some time after the 3DS is launched but Nintendo will do it eventually as the popularity of the 3DS increases.

Yes, but your still looking at possibly a year, maybe two of DS support... the PS2 is going on it 6th year previous gen support and the DS matches in comparision to the handheld market so there's no reason they won't for a long time as they remain a product for the casual handheld market. Another source of this evidence could be the GBA which only lost support around 2007-2008, the DS released in 2005.

Nothing wrong with a pre-owned DS, most solid piece of tech on the market at the minute i'd say

I found it to be a disappointment, not nearly as good as the N64 used to be.
For playing online shooters, PS3 simply kicks ass.
But since you don't like playing online, and are more into nintendo, I'd say get yourself a Wii.
