Today is my youngest brother, Samuel's birthday. He would've been 9....but he died. Im not handling today well. I didn't go to school and now I just feel really depressed. I feel guilty for being sad because everyone keeps telling me, "Samuel would've wanted you to go to school." and, "Samuel doesn't want you to be sad." I can't help it though. What can I do to feel better?

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's fine to be upset about things like this. It's natural to be upset. Having a good cry about it is probably the best thing you can do. Maybe you could talk to your mum about how much it upsets you? Or maybe to a friend or other family member. Having a talk and a cry on someone else's shoulder may be very beneficial. If you can't talk to anyone about this in real life you can always contact me :)

We love a person because of their soul, their personality and who they are. We don't love them for their physical presence. Love your brother, remember him for the good things and be glad that you ever had the fortune of knowing him. Celebrating peoples lives rather than mourning over the loss is much better for you.

↑ These are very true.

When people tell you that your little brother would have wanted you to go to school, they aren't meaning to make you feel guilty. You should try to celebrate his life on events such as this rather than grieve, although I appreciate you probably don't feel very positively about your brother not being alive any more.

As Fiction said, have a good cry. Take some time to reflect on things and perhaps talk to someone about it if you think it could help.
