Still struggling

I was verbally abused by my ex boyfriend for over 3 years.
It became a part of my life, something I accepted as fact.
My friends finally did convince me he was bad for me, and I've been away from him for about 2 months now, but...
The memories still remain. And the words still cut deep.
How do I get over it?

I know its a cliche that time heals all words. He was a big part of your life and you loved him. So of course the words are still going to get to you. You need to remember why you left him. It sounds like he was verbally abusing you, as a way of trying to control you. Making you think you didn't have anyone but him, keeping your self esteem low. I am glad you got away from him and that you have some good friends

I was in a similar situation just over a year ago, although I was only with the guy for a month or two. As Shane says, only time will heal. It did for me, although it still does occasionally bother me but not half as much as it did. You just have to give it time. Feel free to contact me if you ever need to talk.

I totally know what you mean, I've been in your position before. Basically, how I got over it, was the way my friends convinced me otherwise. Then I really began to question if what they said was true. Now, to this day, I don't believe anything anyone said to me was true. :D

hey, ive been in the same situation, my ex boyfriend treated me really badly, i was going out with him for 9 months and lost nearly all my friends cause of him, he also tried to abduct me at the start of october, but things will get better now your away from him, and eventually you will find someone who really cares for you, your prince (or princess) :) will come along xxxx
