View Full Version : Maximum Avatar Width

Might be a good idea to extend the max avatar width, currently it's 120.

It could be 165px and still fit cleanly into the postbit, in fact even more clean as it would be parallel to the other postbit widths. This way just seems to be wasting valuable avatar space :P

I like it too :P that way it's easier to see the avatar. Sometimes I struggle to see them clearly, or maybe I'm just going blind o_O
But I think it's a good idea.

I like it, but do we really need them any bigger?

1. Thanks for using me (Aaron's work btw) as an example :P
2. I certainly agree with this idea :)

If it's possible, it's preferable. And it's very easily possible and easy so shouldn't be a problem.

I think it looks fine to me.

Yes, it looks fine - I'm not disputing that. What I'm saying is that bigger possible avatars can only be better. Otherwise we're left with useless blank space more of the time.

I'm not opposed to this idea; I just don't see why it matters if there can or cannot be a huge avatar.

It means that you can see more detail in the avatar and that it matches the box size in the Forever Blue theme, and so is more streamlined

It's not too bad of an idea that I might consider looking into and bringing up with the other staff, but I can understand your point of view, but if the picture of the image is already large and it's inserted, then what exactly is the gain? Either way, I can see avatars pretty well, but it's definitely something worth considering.

It would allow me bigger avatars, which means more freedom in avatars, which can only really be beneficial. With no real opposition, can we do this please? :)

Theres no reason not to. I like it, I had a few avatars that I liked but were to big.
Also, how about animated GIF avatars? I also have loads of these I'd like to use, but it seems we can't. If this could be done, it would be great.
I just may make a thread of this. If enough people agree.

"Freedom."
Didn't we shrink sigs due to large images making too much of a load on the server? They were reduced despite people having the same "sight" problem now being posed by avatars.
"inb4 but it's only 45px."
Yes, but multiply 45px by a post by every user. Now add posted images in the thread and sigs.
We're back at square one. :D

If we're talking bandwidth or server load here, I don't know if it would cause much of an issue. I don't know the server load or server specs now, but having run sites in past with capabilities of 150x150 avatars, it hasn't caused any noticeable problem. I remember Ant telling me he didn't see a problem with it but was waiting for more response a while back, so I don't think it's too much of a primary concern.

I've tried a few of mine, more than one, none have seemed to work. It could just be me.
Are you uploading them by link or by the file on your computer?
