Who has seen this??? I cannot recommend it enough! Amazing! The story of the Swan Lake kind of parallels the psychological downward spiral that the lead character is going through, and that really takes the experience up a notch. It's like a psychological thriller, but with better music (swan lake music). And Natalie Portman is the best actress this year, HANDS DOWN.
If u like Darren Arronofsky (director), you should definitely check this out. It's like a mixture of Pi and the wrestler, but with a female lead, and much more than that. Just go see it!

haha Its not. It's about one creepy obsessed and paranoid ballerina, and it parallels the story of The Swan Lake, so each character represents a character from the Swan Lake. It's really amazing go see it

I saw it! It was so good! None of my friends understood what I was saying when I told them that the movie is like an interpretation of Swan Lake. Natalie Portman was amazing in it.

I know, she was!!! And completely agree with the parallel with the Swan lake story, that's the ending is so perfect, don't wanna spoil it, but i hope u get what i mean.
It's about a ballerina, who, obsessed with her art, is finally picked as the lead in the ballet The Swan Lake in NY. but she has to do both the white swan (good) and the black swan(evil). As she tries to get more in touch with her dark side in order to play the black swan, she starts liberating herself in many ways, but this begins to drive her mad and make her paranoid with everyone around her. Plus, each character s a parallel of one of the Swan Lake characters.
I'm gonna stop there, otherwise I'll spoil the whole thing, but just go see it it really is amazing.

It was definitely one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen... and very well done!

I saw the advert for it the other day, looked really interesting actually. Another movie to put on my list for when it comes out. I never see movies in theatres unless it's Harry Potter midnight shows or something. I'm not going to pay $10 for a ticket to see it when I can pay five dollars more for the DVD itself, or just half the ticket price to rent it.

I saw it and I'm not sure whether it's even good or not.
I mean, the storyline is so confusing. How do these things happen when they didn't really happen? Plus, it didn't draw much emotion out of me. I wasn't sad.
But the acting was absolutely incredible.

Yeah the acting was incredible, but I think it is very emotional, because of what Nina goes through. By the end, she had me completely involved.

Black swan is really a award winning movie with excellent functions.Black Swan Nina is just like it a beautiful mess of technical perfection that could achieve greatness, if only it was more interesting. It is a rare case where I feel I can shower praise on a director to its jurisdiction, the actors for their performances, and always walk away impressed by the film as a whole. Something like the possibilities of a true Black Swan: Swan rare, but not impossible.Black performance characteristics worthy of a price support - but not add to this list of Mila Kunis, playing the femme fatale essentially the same freedom of spirit we saw in the excerpt from last year.

I really want to see it, but I'll wait for the DVD release. My mom frowns upon the sexual content (spare me) and I don't feel like being anywhere near her when the scene pops up on screen.

Natalie Portman has the same wooden expression in this film as she does in all her others. One of the worst actresses of the moment.

Are you fucking trolling? She was amazing in the movie. Those last thirty minutes with her and when she's with her mother, those scenes are fucking perfect.

No, I just don't like her as an actress. Her technical work (i.e. the ballet) is very well done, but this performance is nothing more than violent emotions and histrionics. Whenever she shared the screen with another actor (especially with the amazing Barbara Hershey, who you mentioned), I was more interested in the other character. Though I am glad she didn't resort to her usual acting tactic; to smile vacuously at her male co-star and deliver her lines in a deadpan (which she definitely did in Closer), she didn't really do much here, either, to make me go, "WOW. Now SHE'S a good actress."
As for the whole "it's undeniable" thing -- no, it's not. It's your opinion and others will have different ones. I thought Anne Bancroft was amazing in The Miracle Worker, but there are definitely others who don't. Dennis Hopper blew my mind in Blue Velvet, but some people can't stand that performance. So, you know, different strokes for different folks.

One thing is that you don't like her way of acting, her performance, and that's fine, but whether or not it is good acting is a little bit less of an opinion. You can actually break down what an actor is doing right or wrong. Don't u think?
I think her final dance is one of the moments when I saw a great actress, and it wasn't just the dance, music, cinematography, etc, it was her expression, her acting that had me riveted.

Really, I don't understand how she seemed dead acting in this movie. She really did a good job displaying the innocent falling down the spiral into the black swan.
The movie follows up to the style that Aronofsky usually gives out; a dark, bleak, and nihilistic film. Actually, I felt like I was feeling like I was getting a ballet version of Requiem For A Dream in the movie - how each character in that movie slowly hit their bottom, where in this, the protagonist hits their bottom and loses sanity.
And of course many people don't understand Blue Velvet or for instance, any David Lynch work. Why? Because those movies are really more than just movies - take Lost Highway and Mullholland Drive for instance. They're both very experimental and noir-like, somewhat avant garde. Really, I think Lynch is the best film maker of all time. OF ALL TIME!!!!!

I don't like Kristen Stewart's acting style, so I consider her a bad actress. The same goes for Portman. It's all subjective.

Blue Velvet IS a noir film, isn't it? It has the idyllic town acting as a facade for the corruption and cruelty that lies beneath it; the innocent teenager who quickly transforms into the jaded, hard-boiled detective; the villain who's almost irredeemably evil; the two femme fatales; and the crime never really being solved in the end. It's funny that you mention Mulholland Dr.. I found it very, very similar to Black Swan.

I absolutely loved the movie! However, it has effected my eating disorder in a bad way. I love Natalie Portman, I look up to her, she is bloody brilliant! I really want to go see it again. I saw it with my mom, it was funny because she wanted to see a different movie, and when I begged her to take me to this one, first thing she said was, "isn't that the movie with the masturbating ballerinas?" I loled. So she looked the reviews up, and all the viewers commented on the freakin masterbating ballerina (Natille). We saw it anyway to my suprise. :)
